Pharmaceutical research on oral drug delivery, particularly on the gastro-retentive drug delivery system known as the Floating Drug Delivery System (FDDS), has attracted a lot of interest from the pharmaceutical industry. GRDF stands for gastro-retentive dosage forms, which are dosage forms that can be retained in the stomach. With the help of GRDFs, the drug can be released to the upper portion of the GIT more continuously and for a longer period of time. This improves the bioavailability of drugs with limited therapeutic windows, lengthening the time between doses and enhance patient complia

We prepared four types of an aqueous solution, i.e., containing mineral and sugar, containing PHGG, containing mineral and sugar and PHGG, or containing no additives. Micronutrient deficiencies are relatively common, in particular iron and cobalamin deficiency, and may potentially lead to life-threatening clinical consequences when not promptly recognized and treated, especially in elderly patients. The stomach plays an important role in the homeostasis of some important hematopoietic micronutrients like iron and cobalamin, and probably in others equally important such as ascorbic acid, calcium, and magnesium. Gastric emptying is a complex process, one that is highly variable and that makes in vivo performance of drug delivery systems uncertain. A controlled drug delivery system with prolonged residence time in the stomach can be of great practical importance for drugs with an absorption window in the upper small intestine. The main limitations are attributed to the inter- and intra-subject variability of gastro-intestinal (GI) transit time and to the non-uniformity of drug absorption throughout the alimentary canal. An experimental and numerical study of the nonlinear optical properties of hibiscus sabdariffa in gelite bloom is shown. Using the Z-scan technique and a λ = 477 nm cw variable power Ar laser, nonlinear absorption was measured, which is the main contribution to the nonlinear refractive index. Hibiscus sabdariffa presents large phase changes at low powers, which causes spatial self-phase modulation (SSPM) effects. Our experimental results show a high agreement with the numerical model of thermal lens formation used.

Abstract The chemistry of urethane and epoxy systems is reviewed with special reference to the description of the reactive sites and curing mechanisms involved. In both cases the basic reactions are addition reactions. Selected aspects of some of the main characteristics of these coatings are considered. In relation with chemical properties, water absorption measurements are of extreme importance. Description of the experimental procedure is given in detail. Results obtained at various temperatures and with several media are discussed. Data concerning mechanical properties is presented with sp

3-Chloropropane-1,2-diol (3-MCPD) esters are food processing contaminants, and are known to be potentially carcinogenic. The main purpose of this study was to determine whether the emulsion technique increases the absorption of this contaminant, and to develop strategies to reduce their absorption. 3-MCPD ester contents in edible oils (hazelnut, walnut, sunflower, soybean, corn, and olive oil) were determined. Refined olive oil contained the highest 3-MCPD ester level (1.7749 ± 0.1262 mg/kg). Then, emulsions (fine, medium, coarse) were prepared with 0.15-2% emulsifier (whey protein isolate) an

Despite active research, the mechanism by which food is transported, mixed and absorbed in the human gastro-intestinal tract remains poorly understood. At the University of Iowa Veterans Hospital, clinicians have been treating veterans for abnormal mechanical activity of the stomach and intestine and are pursuing research into such mechanisms, in order to better control and treat such ailments. The pathology experienced by these patients tends to be chronic and somewhat refractory to treatment particularly in the elderly, those with diabetes or after abdominal operations. Lipid oxidation occurred rapidly in turkey muscle, intermediate in duck, and slowest in chicken during frozen storage. Depletion of tocopherol during frozen storage was more rapid in turkey and duck compared to chicken. This paper provides an estimation of the size of income and demand automatic stabilizers in a representative sample of Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries. The authors find that when a negative unemployment shock hits the economy, the size of income and demand automatic stabilizers coefficients is much smaller than the size of these coefficients in Europe and the United States. This evidence suggests that there is room for policies that can enlarge the absorption by these coefficients as a way to contribute to macroeconomic stability in LAC countries. Our ability to assess the risk associated with produce contamination and to devise innovative control strategies depends on the identification of critical determinants that affect the growth and the persistence of human pathogens on plants. The special concentrically braced frame (SCBF) is an aseismic structure, but its bracing system exhibits brittle failure and premature buckling connected with the weld fracture of the gusset plate and the post-buckling of the braces; thus, maximizing the role of energy dissipation is difficult. Here, this paper proposes a system of double-tube buckling-restrained brace with cast steel connectors for steel SCBFs. The large inelastic deformation of the bracing system is mainly concentrated in the ductile cast connectors under the earthquake, and the degree of buckling and post-buckling of braces
