Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate a competitive location problem to determine how to allocate a budget to expand company’s chain by either adding new facilities, expanding existing facilities, or a combination of both actions. Solving large problems may exceed the computational resources currently available. The authors treat a special case when the market can be divided into mutually exclusive sub-markets. These can be markets in cities around the globe or markets far enough from each other so that it can be assumed that customers in one market do not patronize retail faci

Abstract Markets have an exposure problem when getting to the optimal allocation requires a sequence of transactions which if started but not completed leaves at least one trader with losses. We use laboratory experiments to evaluate the effect of the exposure problem on alternative market mechanisms. The continuous double auction performs poorly: efficiency is only 20% when exposure is high and 55% when it is low. A package market effectively eliminates the exposure problem: in low and high-exposure treatments efficiency is 82% and 89%, respectively. Building on stability notions from matchin

The effectiveness of carbon markets in the reduction of emissions at minimal cost requires several conditions. In a dynamic context the inter-temporal dimension adds new conditions for the desirable performance of the market, and some tradeoffs. One tradeoff is related to the duration of permits. A long permit allows the private agent to optimize using a longer time horizon, but increases the risk associated with the initial allocation of the permits, for example the risk of generating market power. A short permit generates problems with the private agent's planning horizon but allows the plan

This paper aims to evaluate the country's agricultural modernization strategy under the lens of the market-driven approach. The early post-War period of economic policy relates to solving the food problem solution for low-income countries, which minimizes farmer welfare and emphasizes benefits to the wealthier, nonfarming class. This prevailed until the 1970s when the interest of the farming class began to be reasserted. By the 1990s, the main issue was the disparity problems, which considers as almost equally weighty, the interests of poor farmers, as well as that of nonagricultural consumers
