Highlights An experimental machine that combined air classification and mechanical screening was investigated to separate corn grain and stover. Important variables included stover:grain ratio, air velocity, and throughput. As much as 99.4% of the grain could be separated from the stover with less than 1% foreign matter in the grain. Abstract. Corn grain and chopped stover were stored anaerobically at 37% to 50% (w.b.) aggregate moisture content to create a unique biomass feedstock. However, after storage, the two fractions must be separated to accommodate different conversion pathways. In thi

The separating ability of the lattice surface when working with combed grain heaps of various fractional compositions was studied. The scientific hypothesis of the study is the assumption that with an increase in the mass fraction of chaff in the heap, the separation efficiency should decrease due to an increase in the volume of grain with a constant mass of the sample of the heap under study as the grain content decreases due to the larger volumetric mass of the latter compared to the chaff. It is a legitimate assumption that the passage of a larger volume of heap through the holes of the lat

Measuring the rate at which tritiated water is transported by diffusion through the stalk of the wheat grain is the main purpose of this paper. Diffusion of THO through the stalk is much slower than expected on the basis of the self-diffusion of THO in water, demonstrating that there are substantial resistances to diffusion of water in the stalk. Entry of THO into the grain by physical processes alone (diffusion), as measured in assemblies in which the grain (stripped of its bracts) is sealed into an impermeable capsule, is fast enough to account for the observed rate of transport of THO into

Our grain growth model follows the dust content in molecular clouds and the inter-cloud medium separately, and allows growth only on pre-existing dust grains. At early times, this can make a significant difference to the dust growth rate. Above z ∼ 8, type II SNe are the primary source of dust, whereas below z

Introduction. Threshing is a multifactorial process which is affected, in particular, by the feedrate of the crop, the specific weight of the threshed grain and return, separation rates, weediness and moisture of the crop. From this point of view, the issues of optimizing the profile of the transporter cut, which allows for threshing and separation with the least effort, are also relevant. It was also experimentally established that the threshing process is affected by the volume of grain material delivered per second (second feed) and the unit velocity.Materials and Methods. ABSTRACT Using the youngest detrital-zircon date(s) of a sedimentary deposit to constrain its maximum depositional age (MDA) is a widespread and growing application of geochronology. Most MDA studies analyze zircon grains at random, but this strategy can be costly and inefficient in cases where the youngest age group is only a small fraction of the population. We propose that handpicking sharply faceted zircon grains will increase the likelihood of encountering first-cycle zircon that have not undergone significant sedimentary transport, thus producing MDA estimates that are closer to the depo
