In this study, self-regulation of the new media is emphasized, which is known as the process of the new media concept that controls itself, and dates back to the first quarter of the twentieth century. Ease of access to new media appeals to people's feelings, and they want to share every moment of their lives in writing and visually in sharing sites and social media applications. The fact that people who actively use the new media want to be too visible also causes the phenomenon of privacy to disappear. Abstract After the 2018 General Election, the incoming coalition made numerous institutional reform pledges, including the establishment of a Malaysian media council to self-govern the press. Nevertheless, the concept is not new as it was initially proposed in 1973. Following stakeholders’ discussions over the past few years, it was decided that a self-regulatory media council should be formed. This is a critical step towards restoring the country’s long-suffering press freedom that had been stifled by press regulations. Hence, it is necessary to study the self-regulatory paradigm as Malaysia

Drawing from a social cognitive perspective, DSR is described as lapses in effective self-control that are self-corrected over time. A shortcoming in this area of research is that factors relevant to the technology that may encourage the development of DSR or media habits are rarely, if ever, discussed. A large focus of existing research is instead narrowly placed on individual factors that motivate DSR and media habits. An extension is proposed to theory o
