Introduction: An estimated 1.1 million people in the United States are living with HIV and an estimated 181,000 individuals are unaware of their infection. Important advances in drug treatment have helped manage the severity of symptoms, including highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART). HAART has significantly reduced the death toll of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA). However, HIV/AIDS continues to affect the central nervous system (CNS), therefore, negatively impacting the entire body. Consequently, speech, language, hearing, cognition, and swallowing is affected, which can result i

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is a specific type of short-duration vertigo that is provoked by changes in head position and usually lasts less than one minute. It is a common vestibular pathology that can have significant effects on patient safety, quality of life, and medical costs. Therefore, it is crucial that medical students are educated and trained to facilitate and coordinate care of patients who may have undiagnosed BPPV. Background: Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMPs) have been recorded from the sternocleidomastoid muscle (cervical VEMP or cVEMP) and more recently from the eye muscles (ocular VEMP or oVEMP) in response to air conduction and bone conduction stimuli. Both cVEMPs and oVEMPs are mediated by the otoliths and thereby provide diagnostic information that is complementary to videonystagmography and rotational chair tests. In contrast to the air conduction cVEMP, which originates from the saccule/inferior vestibular nerve, recent evidence suggests the possibility that the air conduction oVEMP
