Abstract:
Memory is among the most important of themes that form the basis for the novels of contemporary British novelist Kazuo Ishiguro (1954 -). The theme of memory pervades all of Ishiguro's six novels to date, and has proved to be a hallmark of his writing and a theme that he constantly returns to examine in his work. The significance of memory in Ishiguro's novels has often been mentioned by both critics and academics alike, but there has been very little research undertaken specifically on the work of memory in his novels.

This thesis argues that late Sickert was as significant and complex as the Sickert of Camden Town, and explores the richness of the historically specific ways a major British artist’s hitherto neglected corpus functioned. In particular, I investigate the mediation of time and material memory in Sickert's paintings of 1927-42. These works mix responses to contemporary press photography with Victorian imagery from a century earlier at a time when both were loaded with problematic political and cultural meanings. Late Sickert appropriated both past and contemporary mass culture, but I stress the

The government‘s modernisation agenda and society‘s increasing expectations of healthcare require physiotherapists to update their role, location, and identity. Socialisation has required the acquisition of a professional identity as one among several necessary assets‘ for novices. Yet how do physiotherapists come to be the physiotherapists they are?

My thesis explores how memory and trauma permeate the work of the poet Félix Grande (Mérida, Spain, 1937). It addresses the question of how his particular understanding of memory is opposed to a rather bleak view of it held by many other Spanish poets of the time. Grande does not yield to a generalized discrediting of memory. On the contrary, memory is the driving force behind his writing, and this thesis constitutes an analysis of its mechanisms. The originality of Grande’s work stems from the ways in which it shares common ground with contemporary research carried out by disciplines that int
