After documenting differences in monetary shock series, we explore their consequence for inference in several specifications. We find that empirical estimates of monetary policy transmission have few qualitative differences. We caution that inference may not be entirely robust to all shock constructions because qualitat

Nesse caso, a autoridade fiscal desconsidera a interferência do lado fiscal no monetário, o que implica em uma menor eficácia da política monetária. Abstract:
The paper analyzes the reasons for the accelerated accumulation of gold in the structure of Russia's international reserves and the impact of this process on our country's monetary system. The purpose of the paper is to identify the prospects for increasing the role of gold as a collateral asset in the ruble money supply emission. The correlation and regression analysis of the most important macroeconomic variables of the money market, which should be influenced by gold quotations, was chosen as a method of research. The novelty of the paper is the justification of the pattern of accelerated g

Abstract:
This paper examines how booms and busts in peer-to-peer (P2P) lending in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) affect monetary policy transmission to inflation and output. Using state-dependent local projection methods, the results of the paper indicate a weaker transmission during boom phases. Stricter regulation on P2P lending since 2017 in the PRC and the substantial scaling back of P2P lending could positively impact the monetary management of the economy.

Abstract:
Rent measurement determines 32 percent of the CPI. Accurate rent measurement is therefore essential for accurate inflation measurement, but the CPI rent index often differs from alternative measures of rent inflation. Using repeat-rent inflation measures created from CPI microdata, we show that this discrepancy is largely explained by differences in rent growth for new tenants relative to all tenants. New-tenant rent inflation provides information about future all-tenant rent inflation, but the use of new-tenant rents is contraindicated in a cost-of-living index such as the CPI. Nevertheless,

Abstract:
Prominent rent growth indices often give strikingly different measurements of rent inflation. We create new indices from Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) rent microdata using a repeat-rent index methodology and show that this discrepancy is almost entirely explained by differences in rent growth for new tenants relative to the average rent growth for all tenants. Rent inflation for new tenants leads the official BLS rent inflation by four quarters. As rent is the largest component of the consumer price index, this has implications for our understanding of aggregate inflation dynamics and guidi

Abstract:
We consider structural vector autoregressions subject to narrative restrictions, which are inequalities involving structural shocks in specific time periods (e.g. shock signs in given quarters). Narrative restrictions are used widely in the empirical literature. However, under these restrictions, there are no formal results on identification or the properties of frequentist approaches to inference, and existing Bayesian methods can be sensitive to prior choice. We provide formal results on identification, propose a computationally tractable robust Bayesian method that eliminates prior sensitiv

Abstract:
This paper studies how quantitative easing (QE) affects household welfare across the wealth distribution. I build a Heterogeneous Agent New Keynesian (HANK) model with household portfolio choice, wage and price rigidities, endogenous unemployment, frictional financial intermediation, an effective lower bound (ELB) on the policy rate, forward guidance, and QE. To quantify the contribution of the various channels through which monetary policy affects inequality, I estimate the model using Bayesian methods, explicitly taking into account the occasionally binding ELB constraint and the QE operatio
