The standardization of data, encompassing both primary and contextual information (metadata), plays a pivotal role in facilitating data (re-)use, integration, and knowledge generation. However, the biodiversity and omics communities, converging on omics biodiversity data, have historically developed and adopted their own distinct standards, hindering effective (meta)data integration and collaboration. In response to this challenge, the Task Group (TG) for Sustainable DwC-MIxS Interoperability was established. The presence of moisture in hot mix asphalt (HMA) causes loss of strength and durability of the mix, which is referred to as moisture damage. This study deals with the development of experimental methods for measuring total suction in HMA, which can be defined as the free energy state of water in HMA mixes. The total suction is related to the ability of moisture to get into the mix under unsaturated conditions; it is also related to the ability of the mix to retain moisture. Soil suction has been studied extensively. However, suction in HMA as a porous material and its relationship to moisture

To reduce risks of compromised performance, the use of RAP has commonly been controlled by specifications that limit the allowed amount of recycled material in the mixes. Abstract:
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advisory circular AC 150/5100-13 authorized the use of state highway material specifications at nonprimary public-use airports serving aircraft less than 60,000 pounds gross weight. This approval is based on the condition that the safety and life span of these airports will not be adversely affected. The use of highway materials provides the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) with benefits, including cost, expertise, material availability, and sustainability. This study investigated the feasibility of using highway mixes for nonprimary airpor

Abstract:
This study reviews the Illinois Department of Transportation’s full-depth asphalt, limiting strain criterion, and asphalt over rubblized concrete design procedures, considering technological advancements in hot-mix asphalt—namely, the increased use of recycled materials and modified asphalt binders. The researchers evaluated the current |E*| algorithm by conducting laboratory tests with four mix designs and seven asphalt binders of different Superpave performance grades. They compared predictive models, including the current Illinois modulus algorithm as well as the Witczak, Hirsch, and newly

Abstract:
To provide evidence-based revisions to Section 250 of the Illinois Department of Transportation roadside specifications manual, we conducted a literature review, an experimental planting, and a survey of previously planted roadsides. We created newly designed native seed mixes and field tested these mixes in comparison with existing IDOT mixes. After one year of growth in lawn, roadside, and slope areas, we found overall positive effects on native species cover using the newly designed native mixes. We surveyed 34 native species plantings along roadsides in Indiana and Illinois and evaluated s
