Dictyostelium discoideum is a social amoeba, which on starvation develops from a single-cell state to a multicellular fruiting body. This developmental process is accompanied by massive changes in gene expression, which also affect non-coding RNAs. Here, we investigate how tRNAs as key regulators of the translation process are affected by this transition. To this end, we used LOTTE-seq to sequence the tRNA pool of D. discoideum at different developmental time points and analyzed both tRNA composition and tRNA modification patterns. Abstract:
A calibrated hydrodynamic and sediment transport model of the Upper Mississippi River, from Thebes, Illinois, to Birds Point, Missouri, was created to investigate hydraulics and sediment transport in the river channel and across the Dogtooth Island Peninsula (DIP) as the result of the Len Small levee breach. A hydrodynamic model was developed for the reach and calibrated to stage and breach outflow discharge data for the floods of 2011, 2015–2016, and 2017. The hydrodynamic model was used to investigate breach outflow discharges and shear stress distribution over the DIP. Soil and geologic map

Abstract:
This study documents impacts to the Fremont River that were initiated by the construction of Utah State Route 24 in 1962 within what is now Capitol Reef National Park (CARE). The highway and related river modifications led to an artificial abandonment of a 4000 ft long river meander, creation of a channel bed knickpoint (i.e., waterfall), and at least 9 ft of vertical incision into the underlying Navajo Sandstone. Channel incision also appears to have translated upstream, as we found a significant trend of a deeper channel immediately upstream of the knickpoint that transitioned to being wider

Abstract:
Our previous work indicated that suspension-cultured plant cells show remarkable flexibility in altering cell wall structure in response either to growth on saline medium or in the presence of the cellulose synthesis inhibitor 2,-6-dichlorobenzonitrile (DCB). We have continued to analyze the structure of these modified cell walls to understand how the changes modify wall strength, porosity, and ability to expand. The major load-bearing network in the walls of DCB-adapted dicot cells that lack a substantial cellulose-xyloglucan network is comprised of Ca2+-bridged pectates; these cells also hav

Abstract:
The Tahoma Creek Bridge on the southwest side of Mount Rainier is an essential crossing for year-round vehicular access to Mount Rainier National Park (MORA). This site is also exposed to significant hydrologic variability, which the current structure was not designed to withstand. Locally enhanced vertical increases to the riverbed elevation, known as aggradation, threaten the structure?s long-term viability. The purpose of this report is to (1) clarify the details of channel maintenance operations related to the bridge; (2) synthesize the natural and human influences of sediment deposition i

Abstract:
The HEC-6T 1D numerical sedimentation model was used to evaluate the long-term and system-wide sedimentation effects of modifying the operation schedule at the Old River Control Complex (ORCC). The changes evaluated were the increase and decrease of the percentages of flow diverted from the Mississippi River at the ORCC and the modification of the distributions through the four ORCC structures. Also evaluated were dredging scenarios that removed sediment from the bed of the Mississippi River at the ORCC. Sedimentation effects for several operation and dredging scenarios were compared to a Base

Abstract:
We had proposed to look at several aspects of auxin metabolism in fruit tissues: 1) IAA biosynthesis from tryptophan and IAA biosynthesis via the non-tryptophan pathway; 2) changes in the capacity to form conjugates and catabolites of auxin at different times during fruit development and; 3) the effects of modifying auxin metabolism in fruit tissues. The latter work focused primarily on the maize iaglu gene, with initial studies also using a bacterial gene for hydrolysis of IAA-aspartate. These metabolic and molecular studies were necessary to define potential benefits of auxin metabolism modi
