Abstract:

This study was designed to see if children with intellectual disabilities could be taught to add pairs of single-digit numbers using the Touch Math method. Three intellectually disabled students who could add only by using physical representations of numbers were selected for the study. A multiple-probe design across the 3 students was used to evaluate the effectiveness of the intervention. The intervention consisted of a three-step addition program that was planned to teach students to add by counting the faded touch points of the smaller addend starting from the larger addend. The effectiveness of the Touch Math method of instruction was examined in count-all addition procedures with Down Syndrome children. Four children with Down Syndrome were selected for a multiple probe design study. The participants, two male and two female, are students at a school for intellectually handicapped children and adolescents. This study looks at the use of CAL (Computer-AssistedLearning) for TJFL (Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language). An Appropriate model of CAL is sought based on language teaching and learning theories. The model consists of teachers' and students' aspects. Core ideas of language teaching, factors of learning, and an educational aspect are blended into a theoretically ideal CAL syllabus. Current ESL instructors and theorists agree that university students of ESL have a need for a large passive vocabulary. This research was undertaken to determine the effectiveness of a semantic field approach to passive vocabulary acquisition in comparison to a traditional approach. A quantitative analysis of the short-term and long-range results of each approach is presented. Future research and teaching implications are discussed. This thesis investigates what types of teaching approaches and methods can be used when teaching idiomatic expressions to learners of English. The method used is a small-scale research synthesis where studies are summarized, compared and discussed.
