The naval campaign of the Dnieper Liman, fought from the autumn of 1787 to the end of 1788, was one of the most decisive maritime confrontations in the modern history of the Eastern Mediterranean. Fought in conjunction with two major siege operations, the campaign between the naval forces of the Ottoman and Russian empires decided the fate of the key Turkish fortress of Özi (Ochakov), which controlled the mouth of the Dnieper. The campaign was part of the Russian empress Catherine II’s second war with the Ottomans, a confrontation initiated by the Porte in response to Catherine II’s provocativ

The War of the Pacific (1879–84) showcases the development of amphibious warfare during a period of industrialization and technological flux. Historians have traditionally framed Chilean victory in the war as a function of seapower: naval superiority from which victory on land followed as a result. This view underestimates the complex and reciprocal interplay of amphibious and naval operations throughout the conflict. The war can be better understood as a campaign of port hopping, enabled by maritime capacity and naval power, but reliant on amphibious elements to achieve political results and

Abstract This article examines the Suffolk voluntary subscription campaign conducted to raise funds for the building of naval ships in 1782. By carefully analysing the list of subscribers, as well as by looking into the initial process of the campaign, it demonstrates the importance of the county's leading gentry group. Special attention is paid to Sir Charles Davers of Rushbrooke, one of the principal proposers of the patriotic project, who contributed the comparatively large sum of £300.

The Norwegian campaign of 1940 was the first major confrontation between Germany and the Allies in World War II. Although both sides had been poised along the Western Front since September 1939, serious fighting did not break out there; instead, the belligerents first fought in the far north. Germany had sound strategic reasons for conquering Norway, but the Allies attacked them there simply because they did not wish to fight in France. Delamination evolution under cyclic loading is one of the most important research topics for the application of composite materials to aerospace, naval, automotive and, in general, transportation fields. Large experimental campaigns are needed to assess the fatigue behavior of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymers (CFRPs), which may result extremely time and cost consuming. Nevertheless, composite materials design needs to take into account the evolution of fatigue driven damage. Subsequently, the development of efficient and robust computational finite element methodologies to evaluate progression

Abstract:
The underwater site of Nido del Cuervo was discovered by chance in 1977. Some amphoras and stamped lead ingots were recovered, and the site was interpreted as a late-Republican shipwreck. In 1992, after an underwater survey campaign, other ceramic artefacts were extracted and some remains of naval architecture were documented. The material collection in its entirety, however, has never been analysed. Through the re-examination of the excavation documents and materials and the analysis of the maritime constraints on navigation, this contribution aims to provide new data characterising the natur
