Abstract In this work, a real gas-based Vaneless diffuser (VLD) differential equation model is presented. The model requires the specification of the skin friction coefficient as input. However, the use of standard VLD friction coefficient estimation expressions require a re-examination for sCO2 flows. To establish the skin friction coefficient for real gas sCO2 flows, CFD data is generated using Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS), with boundary conditions spanning the typical operating conditions of sCO2 centrifugal compressors in the kW to MW scale of power generation. The CFD computations are c

Apple has a tendency to bear huge amount of flowers or inflorescences. Plants have ability to eliminate excess number of fruitlets. Frequently fruit trees eliminate insufficient number of fruitlets to grow good quality fruits. Most processes related to yield self-regulation varies significantly between different apples varieties. Also meteorological conditions influenced flower buds differentiation and fruit growth during blooming and other development stages. The investigations were carried out in 2015 – 2016 at the Institute of Horticulture. The main aim was to evaluate yield self-regulation

Abstract:
Liquid loading in gas wells is a phenomenon where the liquid content of the well is sufficient to create a back pressure (usually dominated by gravitational pressure changes) which restricts, and in some cases even stops, the flow of gas from the reservoir. Liquid loading is an all too common problem in mature gas fields around the world. It is estimated that in the U.S.A. alone, at least 90% of the producing gas wells are operating in liquid loading regime. The phenomenon is more detrimental in tight wells than in prolific wells and it poses a serious problem in subsea tie-backs, where back p

Impressive strides have been made in the atomistic modeling of lubrication, notably in the case of very thin (nanoscale) flows. However, from an engineering point of view, particularly as it pertains to design, practical predictive ability seems far away. Continuum approaches are surprisingly robust and appear to have validity to the nanometer range, although the Newtonian fluid model may need to be modified to account for non-classical behavior. Various fluid rheological models are discussed below as they pertain to lubrication in complex flow applications.

Abstract:
The ability of flowering plants to prosper throughout evolution, and for many crop plants to set fruit, is strongly dependent on their ability to attract pollinators. To that end many plants synthesize a spectrum of volatile compounds in their flowers. Scent is a highly dynamic trait that is strongly influenced by the environment. However, with high temperature conditions becoming more common, the molecular interplay between this type of stress and scent biosynthesis need to be investigated. Using petunia as a model system, our project had three objectives: (1) Determine the expression pattern

Abstract:
This study deals with the appropriate macroeconomic policies toward international capital flows. It argues that countries in a position to integrate themselves into world capital markets should develop specific policies to deal with capital flows. This paper first shows that foreign capital inflows are not only larger and more volatile but also that their effects on key macroeconomic variables are much stronger in emerging developing countries than in developed countries. Next, the two opposing paradigms regarding capital flows are discussed in detail. Then, a simple classical open economy mac

Meeting the climate change challenge requires structural transformations in infrastructure, health and social protection, and financial institutions. Climate action calls for a redirection of existing financial flows. An adequate response requires redirecting financial flows to achieve annual spending of 2 to 8 percent of GDP on the provision of infrastructure services and 5 to 11 percent of GDP on social programs. Specific financing sources, such as green taxes and sustainable bonds, can finance part of climate efforts. However, to redirect public and private spending and foreign investment i

This paper describes how the standard GTAP framework may be used to assess the short-run impacts of changes in international capital market conditions. It describes a technique that can be used to examine the short-run effects of changes in country risk. In the standard GTAP model investment demand is spread across regions according to a simple rate-of-return-equalizing rule. By making the risk premium in this rule explicit, we are able to examine the effects of changes in these risk premium. Abstract:
The digital economy has been growing unprecedentedly. However, taxing digital transactions has remained a challenge for the government, given the content and structure of the country’s taxation law. This Policy Note proposes a method for tracing, visualizing, and analyzing digital transactions’ value flow. It argues that companies in e-commerce systems are linked through a value chain and the value flows in the digital sector vis-à-vis the degree to which tax law can capture these flows can be modeled as a network structure. Hence, it notes that rendering actors and flows of value as a network

Around the world, governments in liberal democracies are increasingly worried by the decline of public trust. The question that is often asked is why individuals and communities have declining trust in government institutions. However, the reverse question – whether governments trust communities, and if not, why not – is far less frequently explored. A relationship of trust involves one party trusting another, and that trust being returned. One key quality of trust is therefore reciprocity. For a successful trust relationship to be created and maintained it must be reciprocal. Trust must flow
