Abstract:
Is it possible to educate for capability as a goal, not a by-product, of education? This thesis addresses this research question by presenting a model to support the implementation of a person-centred approach to teaching and learning in post-compulsory humanities education. This is based on a new methodological framework employed within the Project module in the Philosophical Studies programme at Newcastle University. Here, learners apply a project-based, context-driven approach to develop an understanding of conceptual themes set out in lectures within the context of a personal interest (the

Abstract:
This thesis is centred on the work of Portuguese writer José Régio (1901-1969). He was a teacher-writer and, arguably, the most philosophical of Portuguese school novel authors. In his novel ‘A Drop of Blood’ (1945), Régio shows interest in the formation of the artist as the special object of education – the ‘marked man’ –, whose sensitivity distances him irremediably from the crowd. He adopted the radical individualism of Nietzsche not in order to be ‘for’ or ‘against’ this or that schooling model but to exemplify the perpetual clash, inherent in mankind, between the individual and the group,

Bakalauro darbe lyginamuoju aspektu nagrinėjami du lietuvių autorių (Lauros Sintijos Černiauskaitės „Benedikto slenksčiai“ ir Romualdo Granausko „Duburys“) grožiniai kūriniai, didžiausią dėmesį kreipiant į auklėjimo romano žanro variacijas juose.Moksliniuose darbuose išsamiai pateikta Bildungsromano teorija, tačiau apskritai trūksta mokslininkų platesnio grožinių kūrinių aptarimo, detalesnės jų analizės auklėjimo romano aspektu. Šiame bakalauro darbe aptartos ir esminės auklėjimo romano ypatybės (kanonai), ir minėtu požiūriu smulkiau išanalizuoti bei tarpusavyje palyginti du grožiniai kūriniai

Abstract:
This study deals with the problems of external examining, the inflexible demands of which dominate and dictate to literature teaching in South African schools today. The aims of teaching literature are discussed, and it is suggested that the negative attitudes among pupils resulting from the present examining system defeat many of these aims. The opportunities for the enjoyment of literature are minimised by the process of preparation for external examinations.
