Abstract:
The current study proposes an intervention of oral-motor techniques, targeting peripheral stimulation with central-level effects, where synaptic densification is expected to allow a more coordinated motor response, with positive outcomes on the speech inteligibility. The intervention techniques belong to quite different fields: myofunctional techniques (posture determination, isotonic exercises for the oral musculature), oro-facial massage according to the C. Morales method, passive stimulation with a vibrating instrument (z-vibe) and repetitions of diadokokinetics. An ABA (single-subject expe

This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of integrating multiple oral motor stimulation interventions in facilitating the readiness for oral feeding among premature neonates.. A systematic review methodology was adapted for this inquiry. Extensive literature searches were conducted across prominent databases, including PubMed, EBSCO, Sage Journal, Taylor & Francis, Clinical Key for Nursing, and Proquest. A total of six articles, all randomized controlled trials, were selected and meticulously reviewed. The results of this systematic review indicate that the interventions employed include c

A consideration in treatment of dysphagia is remedial versus compensatory intervention. Remedial treatment focuses on restoration of a level of swallowing and oral motor function, compensatory treatment circumvents a problem with the use of alternative techniques. Remedial treatment such as stimulation of techniques and exercises to enhance the swallowing reflex, alter muscle tone, and improve voluntary function of the orofacial, lingual, and laryngeal musculature were effective. Therefore, common problem and actual treatment skill were reviewed in this paper. Restoration of oral motor functio

Abstract:
This study investigated the effect of active rest on perceptual-motor learning. Two groups received different techniques for promoting recovery during an 8-min. rest period between practice on a mirror-drawing task. The two techniques were active rest by reading orally a book unrelated to the experiment and passive rest during which the group sat without moving the body or thinking about the experiment. Significantly fewer number of errors in the mirror drawing occurred for those subjects who used oral reading during rest. The possibility of raising arousal was discussed.

The Cognitive Pocket Method allows to adjust the auditory perception, respectively — the understanding of oral speech, and teach to read as well. Also the method subsequently provides to the wards education and communication techniques. The method can be used with normotupical children and adults, it is used both at home and in the specialist’s environment, which includes appl

AbstractMalignant salivary gland tumors (MSGTs) are of key interest for head and neck surgeons since surgery with adjuvant radiotherapy is considered the treatment of choice in most patients. In this respect, recently, interesting developments in ablative and reconstructive procedures have been proposed. Regarding the ablative part, transoral surgery, both with laser (transoral laser microsurgery or TLM) and robot (transoral robotic surgery or TORS) is increasingly used as a less invasive surgical treatment of malignant minor salivary gland tumors (MiSGMT) of the oropharynx, larynx and hypopha

Abstract Malnutrition afflicts more than 200 million children throughout the world and is responsible for 50% of deaths that occur before age 5. Malnutrition robs young children of good health, growth, and development. Many internationally adopted children are malnourished prior to adoption (see Chapter 2). Prenatal malnutrition is common: more than 25% of international adoptees are low birth weight. Because of uncertainty about gestational age in most children, determination of intrauterine growth retardation is difficult. Postnatal malnutrition befalls children who reside with impoverished o

Abstract Oral Motor and Respiratory Exercises (OMREX)® is a Neurological Music Therapy (NMT) technique, that is applied to develop or rehabilitate articulatory control, respiratory strength, and functions of the speech apparatus mainly through sound vocalization and wind instrument playing. Playing wind instruments serves to improve respiratory capacity and singing exercises facilitate oral motor control and muscular coordination, thus both are used to support spontaneous and functional speech as well as to improve speech comprehension. This overview chapter discusses memory functions from the viewpoint of the performing arts. ‘Playing music by heart’ is taken as an example to illustrate the role of the hippocampus in acquiring and expressing expert memory. Many more aspects depend on hippocampal mechanisms beyond declarative memory, for example, motor sequence learning, phrase boundary processing, and time precise sequence recall. In consequence, changes in size and/or functional activity also occur in the hippocampus, known as hippocampal plasticity. Whenever the to-be-remembered items have to be stabilized even further, ce

Learning English as a foreign language requires an extensive use of cognitive capacity, memory, and motor skills in order to orally express one’s thoughts in a clear manner. Current speech recognition intelligence focuses on recognising learners’ oral proficiency from fluency, prosody, pronunciation, and grammar’s perspectives. However, the capacity of clearly and naturally expressing an idea is a high-level cognitive behaviour which can hardly be represented by these detailed and segmental dimensions, which indeed do not fulfil English learners and teachers’ requirements.
