Abstract:
Abstract The new millennium has witnessed the rapid development of synthetic organofluorine chemistry all over the world, and chemists in China have made significant contributions in this field. This review aims to provide a brief introduction to China's primary innovations from 2000 to early 2017, covering fluorination, fluoroalkylation, fluoromethylthiolation, fluoroolefination and polyfluoroarylation, as well as synthesis with fluorinated building blocks. Recent advances in the chemistry of difluorocarbene and the chemistry of carbon–fluorine bond activation are also discussed. As a conclus

Use of the carbon hydrogen bond as a functional group in free radical addition reactions to fluorinated olefins has been studied. Using cyclic ethers a detailed investigation of the products obtained revealed that not only carbon hydrogen bonds a to oxygen but also the β and γ carbon hydrogen bonds reacted. Employing hydrocarbons, clean free radical addition reactions initiated by either γ rays or peroxides were observed. Whereas aliphatic hydrocarbons gave reasonable yields, cyclic hydrocarbons gave nearly complete conversions. Some modifications of polyethylene using fluorinated olefins and

Abstract:
This thesis covers work investigating the effects of fluorine incorporation on the structure, biological activity, and NMR properties of anticancer chalcones as well as novel methods for the inclusion of fluorinated moieties into organic compounds. The first chapter looks at the use of silanes as carriers of small fluorinated nucleophiles which can be activated by fluoride anion catalysis to deliver such nucleophiles to organic electrophiles such as aldehydes. The synthesis of a group of such silanes and an assessment of their reactivity towards aromatic aldehydes is described. The second and

Abstract:
The following work describes the synthesis of compounds carrying a vicinal difluoro motif and the evaluation of this structural element to influence the conformation of organic molecules. The synthesis of erythro and threo 1,2-difluoro-1,2-diphenylethane was achieved by bromofluorination and subsequent halogen exchange from stilbene. Oxidative degradation of the phenyl rings allowed to access erythro and threo 2,3- difluorosuccinic acids and a variety of derivatives thereof. The conformations of these compounds were investigated by means of X-ray analysis and NMR spectroscopy. Conformational a

The development of new unconventional routes to small functionalized fluorocarbons (FCs) continues to be an attractive target due to the high utility of FCs in a broad range of applications, including their use as refrigerants, solvents, and surfactants. With the phasing out of hydrofluoroalkanes as refrigerants, there is a growing interest in the synthesis of new hydrofluoroolefins (HFOs), which are known to have significantly reduced global warming potential relative to hydrofluoroalkanes. Currently, energy-intensive conditions and toxic starting materials are typically necessary for their s

Abstract:
This thesis describes approaches towards the synthesis of 20-deoxybryostatins and 20,20-difluorobryostatins. Towards the 20-deoxybryostatins, a route previously developed within the group was followed with a protecting group change designed to prevent problems encountered with a late-stage deprotection. To this end, (R)-pantolactone was transformed through to dimethyl (4S,6R,8R)-[4-(para-methoxybenzyloxy)-10-hydroxy-6,8-O-isopropylidine-3,3-dimethyl-2-one] phosphonate which was subsequently subjected to a Horner-Wadworth-Emmons condensation with (5R,E)-6-(4-methoxybenzyloxy)-5-triethylsilyloxy

Fluorinated arenes are considered valuable in organic chemistry. They display different types of reactivity and physicochemical properties compared to their hydrogen analogues. In this project, our medicinal chemistry programme focused on developing rapidly accessible and modifiable heterocyclic scaffolds. Different classes of fluorinated heteroatom-containing organic compounds including benzothiophenes, (aza)phenoxazines and benzaldehyde phenylhydrazones were synthesised from highly fluorinated aromatic compounds with a diverse range of functional groups appropriate for medicinal chemistry de
