Abstract The effects of cold working and stress relieving sour service grades of tubulars on mechanical properties and SSC resistance were investigated. Several sizes and pipe grades of sour service OCTG were cold expanded and stress relieved under varying conditions. The cold forming operation, without the benefit of stress relieving, results in lowered yield strengths and resistance to SSC. The work has centered on improving and/or stabilizing the conductivity of LiFeO2 and Li2MnO3. The results of a variety of tests on doped samples (Mg, Mn, Cu dopants) are reported. Doping, although not yet optimized, has yielded stable materials with resistivities within a factor of ~2-5 of the original target value. Work is continuing to better understand and optimize these materials and to examine other dopants.

Abstract A study of the polarization behavior of AISI type 420 stainless steel was conducted in solutions containing differing amounts of HCO3-, H2S, Cl-, and CO2. The study concentrated on determining the influence of these environmental variables on pitting. Orifice meter expansion factor data collected at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) between 2003 and 2005 have been reviewed to assess the effect of an assumption made during data reduction. In accordance with the North American orifice meter standard, AGA Report No. 3, Part 1, the data were originally analyzed using a constant value of the isentropic exponent, k = 1.3. By comparison, the expansion factor equation adopted by ISO employs the real isentropic exponent, K, which is a function of pressure, temperature, and gas composition. It presents validation of the CFD models prepared for simulation of wave and current forces on subsea pipelines as well as a summary of the CFD results on singular pipelines. Although the original scope was considering simulation of small diameters pipes only, through CFD research, it was found necessary and useful to extend the scope to include larger pipes. The results of CFD simulations will be integrated with the software in the next phases of the project.
