The goal of the research described in this article is to develop flexible language constructs for writing large data parallel numerical programs for distributed memory (multiple instruction multiple data [MIMD]) multiprocessors. Previously, several models have been developed to support synchronization and communication. Models for global synchronization include single instruction multiple data (SIMD), single program multiple data (SPMD), and sequential programs annotated with data distribution statements. As the demand for high-performance computing continues to surge, harnessing the full potential of multicore architectures has become paramount. This paper explores a pragmatic approach to transition from sequential to parallel programming, capitalizing on the computational prowess of modern hardware systems. Recognizing the challenges of enforcing parallelism in early software development phases, we advocate for a focus on the implementation stage, where architects, designers, and developers can seamlessly introduce parallel constructs while preserving software integrity. The Force parallel programming language designed for large-scale shared-memory multiprocessors is presented. The language provides a number of parallel constructs as extensions to the ordinary Fortran language and is implemented as a two-level macro preprocessor to support portability across shared memory multiprocessors. The global parallelism model on which the Force is based provides a powerful parallel language. The parallel constructs, generic synchronization, and freedom from process management supported by the Force has resulted in structured parallel programs that are ported to the man

Eden extends the non-strict functional language Haskell with constructs to control parallel evaluation of processes. Although processes are defined explicitly, communication and synchronisation issues are handled in a way transparent to the programmer. In order to offer effective support for parallel evaluation, Eden's coordination constructs override the inherently sequential demand-driven (lazy) evaluation strategy of its computation language Haskell. The last decade has seen the transition from single-core processors to multi-cores and many-cores. This move has by and large shifted the responsibility from chip manufacturers to programmers to keep up with ever-increasing expectations on performance. In the single-core era, improvements in hardware capacity could immediately be leveraged by an application: faster machine - faster program. In the age of the multi-cores, this is no longer the case. The use of the C++ constructs mutex and future to resolve issues of synchronization are discussed. All methods are illustrated with an embarrassingly parallel application to a Monte Carlo integral and common pitfalls are presented. The chapter closes with a discussion and example o

Dress and Identity in America is an examination of the conservatism and materialism that swept across the country in the late 1940s through the 1950s—a backlash to the wartime tumult, privations, and social upheavals. Abstract:
The properly constructed buckling restrained braces (BRBs) usually have good ductility and energy dissipation capacity and therefore can be used in braced steel frames. However, large residual plastic deformation of the BRBs deteriorates their resilience capacity and hence results in large residual deformation of the buckling restrained braced steel frames (BRBFs) under large drifts. To reduce the residual deformation of BRB while keeping good ductility and energy dissipation capacity, a new self-centering buckling restrained brace (SCBRB), letting both BRB part and self-centering part work in
