Abstract Older individuals face increasing social expectations and demands to remain active and participate in society. Perceived expectations for active aging (PEAA) refer to older adults’ recognizing such expectations as being directed at them personally. Previous studies, investigating PEAA as a relatively stable trait-like construct, showed that most individuals can cope well with activation demands. However, some individuals might be distressed by them. A deeper understanding of PEAA and their consequences can be reached when both are assessed in everyday life. In a 14-day diary pilot stu

Necrotic diseases of the stems, petioles, and leaves of pea plants (Pisum sativumL.), leading to wilting and death, occur in the Wakayama and Mie Prefectures of Japan. Based on host range, symptomatology, electron microscopy, and serological relationships, Watermelon mosaic virus (WMV) and three Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) isolates (PE2, PE3A, and PB1) were isolated from diseased plants in the Wakayama Prefecture. In the Mie Prefecture, CMV (PEAN) also was isolated from pea plants with similar symptoms. Single infection with CMV (PB1 or PEAN) caused stem necrosis and eventual death of pea plan

This study aims to: (1) determine the chemical properties of peat soils in 3 types of land cover in 2 physiographies; (2) find out water level fluctuations (WLF) on peat soils covered by agroforestry and horticulture in the physiography of peat dome and backswamp during the rainy season, transitions and drought. This research was conducted in January until December 2018 in Kahayan-Sebangau Peat Hidrological Unit, in the Kalampangan Vilagge. The results showed that differences in peat soil cover conditions at different physiographies affected chemical properties and WLF. The three types of peat

Abstract Single 14-year-old d’Anjou trees were treated on 28 Mar at late-delayed dormant stage for control of pear psylla nymphs. CGA 29170 treatment was reapplied on 9 Apr. Single tree units replicated 4 times in a randomized complete block design were sprayed by handgun to run-off using a 7 gpm John Bean sprayer operating at 350 psi at about 400 gpa. Effectiveness of materials was assessed by counting under a dissection scope pear psylla nymphs on 3 spurs per replicate (12 spurs per treatment). Average monthly temperatures were: Mar42.0°F, Apr 51.4°F, May 56.7°F. Precipitation in inches was:

Abstract Twenty-year-old pear trees were sprayed with handguns operating at 600 psi to evaluate Avid for seasonal control of PP. Populations were monitored at 2-week intervals by adult and nymph counts. PP adults were counted by the limb tap method (25 taps/plot), PP nymphs and PRM from brushed leaf samples (56 leaves/plot). Plots consisted of unreplicated blocks of 16 trees. Plots were sprayed 19 Mar, 7 Apr, 28 May and 17 Jul.

We present studies of 9 modern (up to 400-yr-old) peat sections from Slovenia, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, and Finland. Precise radiocarbon dating of modern samples is possible due to the large bomb peak of atmospheric 14C concentration in 1963 and the following rapid decline in the 14C level. All the analyzed 14C profiles appeared concordant with the shape of the bomb peak of atmospheric 14C concentration, integrated over some time interval with a length specific to the peat section. In the peat layers covered by the bomb peak, calendar ages of individual peat samples could be determined alm
