Abstract:
Allogeneic haematopoietic-stem-cell transplantation (HSCT) is the treatment of choice for many malignant and non-malignant disorders. The development of novel strategies such as donor leukocyte infusion, nonmyeloablative HSCT, and cord blood transplantation allowed expanding the indications for allogeneic HSCT over the last several years, especially among older patients. However, the major toxicity of allogeneic HSCT, Graft-versus-Host Disease (GvHD), remains a complication that limits its wider application. Despite advances in post-transplantation immunosuppressive therapy, GvHD remains a maj

Background.

Pediatric cardiac surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) induces a complex inflammatory reaction of variable intensity that, in severe cases, may lead to multiple organ dysfunctions, resulting in considerable morbidity and mortality. Previous studies have demonstrated the involvement of cytokines with both pro-inflammatory and anti- inflammatory profile in the inflammatory response in this group of patients, as well as its relationship to morbidity in the postoperative period. The present study aimed to delineate the kinetics of plasma concentrations of eight different cytokines, to deter

<p>Since its inception in the 1970's, computed tomography (CT) has revolutionized the practice of medicine and evolved into an essential tool for diagnosing numerous diseases not only in adults but also in children. The clinical utility of CT examinations has led to a rapid expansion in CT use and a corresponding increase in the radiation burden to patients. CT radiation is of particular concern to children, whose rapidly growing tissues are more susceptible to radiation-induced cancer and who have longer life spans during which cancerous changes might occur. In recent years, the increasing aw

Currently, there is a dearth of knowledge regarding pediatric Complex Regional pain syndrome (CRPS), whether it is in regards to its pathophysiological mechanisms, pediatric-specific diagnostic criteria, validated diagnostic tests, conclusive treatment regimens, or validation of invasive and noninvasive treatment protocols in the pediatric CRPS population. It is imperative to first explore and establish a pediatric CRPS diagnostic criteria in order to optimize diagnostic accuracy for clinical and research purposes. This study first examined the efficacy of the Budapest criteria, a validated
