Background: Sickle cell disease (SCD) is associated with arthropathy. Arthropathy pain may require periarticular injection therapy. However, steroid injections may be unsuitable for SCD patients. Alternatively, magnesium injection may provide analgesia and avoid steroid requirement. This is a study of the impact of periarticular injection therapy on pain, sleep, and walking function improvement in SCD. It studied periarticular magnesium injection versus periarticular dexamethasone injection in SCD and matched non-SCD patients. Methods: This is an observational study of twenty adults with sever

Abstract Background Multimodal analgesia is standard practice for total knee arthroplasty; however, the role of regional techniques in improved perioperative outcomes remains unknown. The authors hypothesized that peripheral nerve blockade would result in lower pain scores and opioid consumption than two competing periarticular injection solutions. Methods This three-arm, nonblinded trial randomized 165 adults undergoing unilateral primary total knee arthroplasty to receive (1) femoral catheter plus sciatic nerve blocks, (2) ropivacaine-based periarticular injection, or (3) liposomal bupivacai

Thus, we aimed to examine the effectiveness of local periarticular injection with bupivacaine for post-operative pain control in TKA.Method. This study aimed to report on a method for injecting botulinum toxin type A into the hamstring muscles combined with periarticular injection in total knee arthroplasty (TKA) patients. We enrolled patients who underwent elective unilateral TKA at our hospital from February 2021 to December 2021 and administered botulinum toxin type A hamstring muscle injection combined with periarticular injection. We established and reported a detailed method for this combined approach, which could provide an alternative analgesic regimen after TKA in clinical practice.

Aims Although periarticular injection plays an important role in multimodal pain management following total hip arthroplasty (THA), there is no consensus on the optimal composition of the injection. In particular, it is not clear whether the addition of a corticosteroid improves the pain relief achieved nor whether it is associated with more complications than are observed without corticosteroid. The aim of this study was to quantify the safety and effectiveness of cortocosteroid use in periarticular injection during THA. Methods We conducted a prospective, two-arm, parallel-group, randomized

Imaging plays a key role for diagnosis, prognosis, and follow-up in patients with OA. Hip pain is a common presentation in medical practice, and causes include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, congenital hip abnormalities, and trauma. Chronic hip pain significantly alters the patient’s quality of life and commonly leads to disability due to damage of structural elements of the hip joint. Ultrasound-guided hip injections are a viable alternative to fluoroscopically guided hip injections. Ultrasound imaging of the hip is a highly sensitive method for detecting joint pathology and periarticular pathology as well. This method is fast, safe, can be used in an ambulatory setting

Abstract:
Abstract Clinical bottom line. There is currently insufficient evidence to provide a definitive answer on the efficacy of steroid injections. Existing data suggest no compelling evidence. Steroid injections should not be used to alleviate pain associated with shoulder disorders until the effectiveness of this treatment can be demonstrated. Shoulder disorders are often caused by periarticular soft tissue impairment, with a minority originating from neurological or generalised musculoskeletal conditions, neoplasms or referred pain from the neck or from internal organs. Based on Dutch data, of all newly presented episodes, 23% resolve within one month, 51% within six months and 59% within one year.
