This paper presents mathematical expressions for the surface geometry of variable pitch cylindrical cams with four conical meshing elements based on the theory of conjugate surfaces. The unit normal of the element is derived, with given surface geometry of the meshing element, by differential geometry. The contact lines of the conjugate surface are defined according to the equation of meshing and the specified input-output relation. By the coordinate transformation of contact lines, we have the complete profile of the variable pitch cylindrical cam. The results of this work are instrumental in

Milling cutters with nonconstant pitch angles can be very effective in improving stability against chatter. An explicit relation is obtained between the stability limit and the pitch variation which leads to a simple equation for determination of optimal pitch angles. A certain pitch variation is effective for limited frequency and speed ranges which are also predicted by the model.

Abstract:
In this study, nine vertical flat plates of pin fin arrays were fabricated by selective laser melting to investigate the possible enhancements of external condensation. These specimens are cylindrical pin fins of the same fin diameter of 300 μm but are of different fin heights (l) and fin pitches (p) from 300 μm to 900 μm. Experiments were conducted in a condensation chamber with near quiescent vapor to simulate free-convection condensation. The aim is to investigate the effects of fin pitch and fin height on the condensation heat transfer performance of the surfaces. The results of this study

Abstract An unmanned surface vehicle (USV) is an unmanned vehicle that is operated on the surface of the water for certain purposes, for example, bathymetry measurement, underwater imaging, etc. These unmanned surface vehicles can be used in impassable waters for crewed vessels in dangerous waters. This research measures the movement of the vehicle acceleration and then calculates it as the USV roll and pitch values. The direction of movement and wind speed and the height of the water surface at low tide are also aspects measured in this research. An accelerometer is a sensor that can measure

The influence of binder on the microstructure and electrochemical property of Si/C anode was discussed. The sample using pitch as binder has smooth surface and is densely coated by pitch. The silicon is exposed on the surface of Si/C compound using glucose as the binder. Compared with pitch-based Si/C anode, glucose-based Si/C anode shows higher initial capacity and coulombic efficiency, but it’s capacity retention ratio is lower. The initial capacity, initial coul

Offshore wind energy is a renewable energy source that is developing fast. It is considered to be the most promising energy source in the next decade. Besides, the expanding trend for this technology requires the consideration of diversified seabeds. In deep seabeds, floating offshore wind technology (FOWT) is needed. For this latter technology, such as for conventional WT, we need to consider aspects related to performance, aerodynamic force, and forces during operation. Abstract In this paper, a novel thrust vector control method based on Coanda effect is proposed for conical surface. The effect of thrust vector control is studied by computation fluid dynamic (CFD) numerical simulation. When there is no side plate on both sides of Coanda surface, there are large vortex structures on both sides of nozzle wake, and the vector control cannot be realized. After adding the side plate, the comprehensive control of the pitch and yaw thrust vectors was realized. When the nozzle pressure ratio (NPR) is 2~2.4, the pitch and yaw vector angles decreased with the increase

Pitch bearings in wind turbines are crucial components that enable safe blade pitching, optimize electrical power output, and ensure turbine protection. Traditional vibration analysis-based methods used for high-speed bearings are not applicable to monitoring pitch bearings, due to its slow non-integer cycle rotation. To address this issue, a stress-based pitch bearing monitoring method is proposed in this paper. First, finite element analysis is conducted to establish the relationship between the maximum surface stress on the outer race of the pitch bearing and the presence of cracks. This re

When the addition of non-pitch binder reaches 15.0 wt. %, the activated carbon exhibits the optimum performance. Ultrasonic NDE of composite laminates is usually analyzed on the backwall echoes of the specimen. In the inspection of actual composite structures, the back surface of the part was curved or contained complex geometry and did not provide a usable backwall echo. Two miniature potted Rayleigh wave transducers (for generating surface waves in contact mode on steel) were joined head-to-head and used in the pitch-catch mode on the surface of composites.
