High temperatures and non-uniform temperatures both have a negative bearing on the performance of proton exchange membrane fuel cells. The temperature of proton exchange membrane fuel cells can be lowered by reasonably distributed cooling channels. The flow field distribution of five different cooling plates is designed, and the temperature uniformity, pressure drop and velocity of each cooling flow field are analyzed by computational fluid dynamics technology. The results show that while the pressure drop is high, the flow channel distribution of a multi-spiral flow field and honeycomb struct

Within the theory of thermo-elasticity, the temperature field of thin plates is commonly defined via two parameters: temperature in the mid-plane and linear temperature gradient normal to the mid-plane. First, the paper analytically proves the justification of that assumption in machine structures. Then, in an analytical closed form, applying the integral transformation method, the thin plate deflection caused by a constant temperature gradient is defined. It is shown that, in that case, the plate deflection does not depend on its thickness but only on the plate dimensions in the mid-plane. An

The finite temperature Casimir effect for a charged, massive scalar field confined between very large, perfectly conducting parallel plates is studied using the zeta function regularization technique. The scalar field satisfies Dirichlet boundary conditions at the plates and a magnetic field perpendicular to the plates is present. Four equivalent expressions for the zeta function are obtained, which are exact to all orders in the magnetic field strength, temperature, scalar field mass and plate distance. Abstract:
Fire models are presently employed by fire investigators to make predictions of fire dynamics within structures. Predictions include the evolution of gas temperatures and velocities, smoke movement, fire growth and spread, and thermal exposures to surrounding objects, such as walls. Heat flux varies spatially over exposed walls based on the complex thermal interactions within the fire environment, and is the driving factor for thermally induced fire damage. A fire model predicts the temperature and heat transfer through walls based on field predictions, such as radiative and convective heat fl

Solanki, Pranshoo, and Haiyan Xie. Field-Curing Methods for Evaluating the Strength of Concrete Test Specimens. Illinois Center for Transportation, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.36501/0197-9191/23-023.

Abstract:
The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials R 100 standard provides instructions for making and curing concrete test specimens in the field. However, further research is needed to compare the strength of the field-cured specimen with the strength of the actual in-place concrete item. The purpose of this combined laboratory and field study was to evaluate field-curing methods of concrete specimens for estimating the early opening strength of an in-place concrete item. The researchers used one Illinois Department of Transportation class PV mix to cast cylinders, beams,

Abstract:
The following documents collect information regarding the calibration and intercalibration of various sensors that were deployed during the North Atlantic field component of the NASA EXPORTS project (EXPORTS NA), which took place between May 4 and June 1, 2021 (Johnson et al., 2023). The EXPORTS NA campaign was designed to to provide a contrasting end member to the earlier North Pacific field campaign, and focused on carbon export associated with the North Atlantic spring bloom in which gravitational sinking of organic particles, the physical advection and mixing, and active transport by verti

et al., Chen. L52347 Microstructure Model for Welding Simulations. Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI), 2012. https://doi.org/10.55274/r0010457.

Abstract:
Welding of micro-alloyed, high strength steels such as X100 poses a number of challenges due to, in part, the sensitivity of weld mechanical properties to the welding parameters such as heat input, preheat temperature, etc. For design purpose, it is often required that the mechanical properties of the welds overmatch those of the pipe materials in terms of yield strength, ductility, and toughness. In general, high strength pipe steels exhibit lower strain hardening capability, lower ductility, and increased anisotropy than the traditional lower grade steels. For these steels, when exposed to w

Abstract:
We need a new way of talking about global warming. UN Secretary General António Guterres underscored this when he said the “era of global boiling” has arrived. Although we have made remarkable progress on a very complex problem over the past thirty years, we have a long way to go before we can keep the global temperature increase to below 2°C relative to the pre-industrial times. Climate models suggest that this next decade is critical if we are to avert the worst consequences of climate change. The world must continue to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and find ways to adapt and build resili

ON FIELD-MEASURED VERTICAL TEMPERATURE GRADIENT OF BOX GIRDER IN STEEL BRIDGES. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/icass2020.p.320.

Full text
Abstract:
To investigate distribution of the vertical temperature gradient of a closed steel box girder under solar radiation, specifications in four major codes on the vertical temperature gradient of a main girder or steel box girder in China and other countries are first compared. Then, temperature measurement is carried out inside a steel box girder bridge. It was found that under the effect of hot weather and strong solar radiation, the temperature rose rapidly on the deck overlay and reached its maximum at around 14:00, while the maximum temperature of the deck was recorded at around 16:00. NUMERICAL SIMULATION ANALYSIS OF TEMPERATURE FIELD OF BOX-TYPE COMPOSITE WALL. The Hong Kong Institute of Steel Construction, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.18057/icass2020.p.321.

Abstract:
The spatial and temporal characteristics of the internal temperature field of the box-type composite wall have great significance to high temperature mechanical response and fire resistance performance of composite wall subjected to fire. A series of assumptions for the simplified model were made after determining the influence of various thermal parameters, the boundary conditions of surface and the contact conditions. And the finite element software(ABAQUS) was used to establish the temperature field analysis model to conduct nonlinear transient temperature response analysis, then the validi
