Abstract:
The optical characteristics of a single-layer and double-layer antireflection coating for different substrates are considered. Methods of simultaneous blooming of s - and p - polarization component of light are shown. The refractive index and thickness of the layers necessary for blooming the substrates with a given refractive index at an arbitrary angle of light incidence are determined. The urgency of the task of creating new optical materials with low refractive index is shown. This thesis treats of channel models for polarized multi-antenna wireless systems. Polarized multi-antenna systems are systems that use perpendicularly polarized, co-located antennas at the base station and at the mobile terminal, in order to benefit from the so-called polarization diversity. Such systems benefit from the advantages of MIMO systems while still maintaining a compact equipment size. Two models will be presented in this thesis. The first one is the Polarized-Input Polarized-Output (PIPO) channel model, the second one is the Polarized-Diffuse-Directional channel model.

The P

Abstract:
This dissertation addresses the creation of polarization vortex beams. Vortex retarders are components with uniform retardance but a fast axis which rotates around its center with can create polarization vortices. The goal was to develop a simple method for producing vortex retarders for visible wavelengths, with a continuous fast axis, and for multiple vortex modes. The approach was to use photo-aligned liquid crystal polymers (LCP). The target was a halfwave retardance for wavelengths in the range of 540~550nm. A photo-alignment layer was spin-coated onto a substrate, baked, and alignment w

In this study, the Jones matrix eigenanalysis (JME), optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) and polarization scrambling methods were used to investigate polarization dependent loss (PDL) in the presence of polarization mode dispersion (PMD) in optical components and fibres. The PDL measurements were conducted both in the laboratory and in the field. For field measurements, a buried link (28.8 km) and an aerial fibre (7.1 km) were extensively studied. The findings obtained from these studies are very important for network operators who must assess the impact of PDL on the network reliability. The thre

The Polarizer-Sample-Analyzer (PSA) arrangement with the optical components P and A rotating with a fixed speed ratio (3:1) was originally introduced to determine nine Mueller matrix elements from Fourier analysis of the output signal of a photodetector. The arrangement is modified to the P'PSAA' arrangement where P' and A' represent fixed polarizers that are added at both ends with the speed ratio of the rotating components (P and A) remaining the same as before. After determination of the partial Mueller matrix in the ideal case, azimuthal offsets and imperfection parameters are introduced i

As higher bit rate and longer distance are implemented, the impact of polarization problems such as polarization dependent loss (PDL), polarization dependent gain (PDG) and polarization mode dispersion (PMD) become very crucial issues and should be addressed. According to the research, polarization causes distortion in both energy and time in the communication system. In energy view, PDL causes the uncertainties on energy. In the time domain, once PMD shows up, it will limit propagation time and degrade th
