Abstract:
Review question / Objective: This study is to assess the efficacy and safety of ketamine in treating refractory and super-refractory status epilepticus in pediatric and adult populations. Rationale: Refractory status epilepticus (RSE) is either generalized or complex partial status epilepticus (SE) that fails to respond to first and second-line therapies. Super refractory status epilepticus (SRSE) is SE that remains unresponsive despite 24 hours of therapy with general anesthesia [1, 2]. Both RSE and SRSE pose significant challenges for the managing intensivist. There exists a race against tim

Abstract:
I provide estimates of intergenerational mobility (IGM) in education at a disaggregated geographic level for Chile, a country with high school-level stratification by socioeconomic status and a decentralized administration of public schools. I document wide variation across communes. Relative mobility is correlated to the number of doctors, the number of students per teacher, and earnings inequality. Using a LASSO, I find that the share of students enrolled in public schools, the number of students per teacher, population density, and municipal budget are the strongest predictors of IGM. I als

Many critical infrastructures such as transportation, telecommunications, banking, and others depend on continuous electricity supply to perform their functions. However, as modern economies continue to move towards digitalization and the adoption of technologies, part of the population still deals with electricity supply interruptions, which greatly hinders productivity. In this study, we analyzed the monthly interruption reports of electric cooperatives submitted to the National Electrification Administration to uncover some interestin

Abstract:
Background/Purpose: Post-operative delirium leads to significant morbidity in elderly patients, yet there is no regimen to prevent POD. Opioid use in the elderly surgical population is of the most significant risk factors for developing POD. The purpose of this scoping review is to recognize that Dexmedetomidine mitigates cognitive dysfunction secondary to acute pain and the use of narcotic analgesia by decreasing the amount of norepinephrine (an excitatory neurotransmitter) released during times of stress. This mechanism of action also provides analgesia through decreased perception and modul
