Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of crumb rubber on the performance characteristics of porous asphalt mixture in terms of binder/aggregates affinity and mixture cohesion. The recycling of scrap tires in asphalt pavements appears as an important alternative providing a large-scale market. The characteristics of bitumen are very important with regard to service life of porous asphalt pavement. The experimental study consists of two main steps: Step I, sample fabrication by Marshall method with and without crumb rubber (worth mentioning that the mix design was performed in

A polymer matrix of hydroxy ethyl methacrylate - ethylene glycol dimethacrylate was synthesised and coupled with the ligand p-aminobenzamidine. Although the adsorbent displayed sufficient affinity towards trypsin, the overall adsorption performance was not satisfactory. Subsequent studies were carried out with a p-aminobenzamidine silica adsorbent, which gave far superior results. Amounts of up to 35 mg of trypsin per g of silica could be adsorbed from a porcine pancreatic extract at buffer conditions of 0.05 M Tris, 0.5 M NaCl, pH 8. Abstract:
Pevaporation is a method for separating volatile components from liquid mixtures at ambient temperatures. The paint processing industry uses Hansen solubility parameters (HSP) to indicate polymer solubility. The potential of this method to predict solvent-polymer affinity was investigated for screening potential membrane materials for the pervaporation of a model solution containing linalool and linalyl acetate (major components of lavender essential oil), in ethanol. Published HSP values were collated for various polymers, and statistically analysed to determine variations in HSP values for p

Affinity chromatography is a process for the separation of biomolecules from complex mixtures. Its versatility, high selectivity and efficiency make it the most currently used method in the final stages of purification of pharmaceutical and food industries, where a high degree of purity is required. Conventional affinity chromatography uses packed beads as solid support and suffers of several limitations, such as high material costs, high operating costs, intraparticle diffusion as primary transport phenomenon and difficulties in column packing. Therefore, it is necessary to develop and char

In analytical chromatography, the sample we analyze is usually rather dilute and allows the development of a rather straightforward method. Due to the minute concentrations we deal with in analytical chromatography, we face a linear behavior. The retention time of the analytes and the selectivity of a given separation can be forecast by simple rules that tremendously help us to develop efficient and fast separations. However, when we increase the sample size and a finite amount of sample is introduced in a chromatographic column, we leave the shelter of linear chromatography and have to
