In this thesis, we study photon production and photon-hadron correlations at next-to-leading order (NLO) in proton-proton collisions, in both the cases of isolated and non-isolated photons. To begin, fundamentals of perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics (pQCD) are reviewed, with an emphasis on describing how to compute spectra for single particle production and correlated pairs at both leading order (LO) and NLO in hadronic collisions. In particular, a discussion of infrared and collinear singularities at NLO will provide a natural introduction to the concept of factorization. These results are

A model is presented to describe pp and pp scattering in the c.m.s. energy range from 5 Gev to 1.8 Tev. Although some attention is paid to properties of the differential cross section, the primary focus is on parametrizing the forward amplitude in a manner consistent with experimental measurements of the total cross section, the rho parameter, and the forward slope. At the HERA particle accelerator, 27.5 GeV electrons collide with 920 GeV protons. Photoproduction events, in which the quasi real photon emitted from the electron interacts with the proton with small momentum transfer, are dominant by 90% of the data sample. K0S-K0S candidate pairs, which might couple to glueballs, are selected and studied with the ZEUS detector in the photon-proton center-of-mass range 130 GeV < W_gamma_p < 270 GeV using the entire data luminosity of 0.5 fb^-1. Enhancements attributed to the production of f2(1270)/a02(1320), f'2(1525) and f0(1710) are observed in the K0S-K0S

The production of charmonium states, $ chi sb1$ and $ chi sb2$, was measured at 300 GeV/c with $ pi sp+$, $ pi sp-$, and proton beams on a lithium target. The cross-sections were determined by analyzing the full data sample recorded, during the 1987-1988 running period, by experiment E705 at Fermilab. Using dimuon events produced in proton-antiproton collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV at the D⊘ detector, the integrated inclusive b-quark production cross section has been extracted. The inclusive b-quark production cross section for Pᵇ(T) > 9 GeV/c is 2.61 ± 0.07(Stat) ± 1.13(Syst) nb. The cross section, dσ/dΔφ(μμ) , where Δφ(μμ), is the azimuthal angle difference between the dimuons, has also been measured. Both measurements are in good agreement with next-to-leading order QCD predictions.

Transverse energy and charged particle multiplicity produced in 14.6 GeV/c p + Al and p + Pb collisions have been studied using the E814 set-up at the BNL-AGS. Measurements of d$ sigma$/d$E sb{T}$, d$E sb{T}$/d$ eta$,d$ sigma$/d$N sb{c}$, and d$N sb{c}$/d$ eta$ are presented. From the present data the mean transverse energy per particle is obtained and it is compared to values observed in Si induced collisions at the same energy. In contrast to what is observed in nucleus-nucleus collisions, a very weak correlation is found between the transverse energy and the charged particle multiplicity. T

A first measurement of the radiative contribution to deep inelastic electron-proton scattering has been performed with the ZEUS detector at HERA. Results show consistency with predictions made by the HERACLES Monte Carlo program. <p> The electric (<i>G<sub>E</sub></i>) and magnetic (<i> G<sub>M</sub></i>) form factors of the proton are fundamental observables which characterize its charge and magnetization distributions. There are two methods to measure the proton form factors: the Rosenbluth separation method and the polarization transfer technique. We have measured the b-quark production cross section for<br>y<br>< 1 using a sample of muons with associated jets collected with the D⊘ detector in pp̄ collisions at √s = 630 GeV at the Fermilab Tevatron. The measured b-quark cross section is consistent in shape with O(α³s) QCD predictions, but exceeds them in normalization by roughly a factor of 2.5.

L'essentiel du travail de cette these se rapporte a la mesure des observables tensorielles de polarisation dans la reaction h(p,d)pion pour des energies comprises entre 580 et 1300 mev. Ces observables sont obtenues en mesurant la polarisation des protons incidents et la polarisation tensorielle des deutons de recul par le polarimetre polder. Les resultats concernant les pouvoirs polarisants et les coefficients de transfert de spin de cette reaction apportent des contraintes nouvelles sur les analyses en ondes partielles et permettent d'acceder a une meilleure comprehension du processus d'abso

Abstract:

We have made a precise measurement of the rapidity dependence of inclusive single jet production cross section d²s/dE(T)dη in pp̄ collisions at √s=1.8 TeV. The measurement is based on integrated luminosity of 92 pb⁻¹ data collected by the D⊘ detector at the Tevatron Collider, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. The cross sections are reported as a function of jet transverse energy in five pseudorapidity (η) intervals up to η = 3.0. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions from next-to-leading order perturbative quantum chromodynamics.

The proton exchange membrane is one key component of direct methanol fuel cells, which has double functions of conducting protons, separating fuels and oxidant. At present, the performance and price of sulfonic acid proton exchange membrane used in direct methanol fuel cells are deeply concerned. In order to reduce membrane 's cost and improve performance of Nafion membrane, three different kinds of membranes have been studied in this thesis. These membranes are SPEEK membranes, SPEEK/ZP composite membranes and Nafion/ZP composite membranes.

Les réactions pd→ 3Heπ° et pd→ 3Heη ont été étudiées pour des angles de production des mésons voisins de 180° (cm) avec des protons d’énergie cinétique comprise entre 0,92 et 2,6 GeV. Ces expériences ont été effectuées en détectant les héliums 3 produits au moyen du spectromètre SPES 4 du Laboratoire National Saturne. Les sections efficaces de production du méson ont des valeurs voisines et parfois même supérieures à celles de production du méson π°.
