In this study, genetic variation in two medically important protozoan parasites Cryptosporidium and Giardia, was investigated using the novel PCR-based technique of RAPD (Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA) analysis. Anther culture experiments were conducted to construct a monoploid family. The donor plants used were hybrids between high leptine producing selections of Solanum chacoense Bitt. and anther culture responsive selections of Solanum phureja Juz. et Buk. Several steps of the anther culture process were studied. The results indicated that genotype remains the main factor affecting anther culture response. The first was an attempt to heterologously reconstitute the Bacillus subtilis RNase P RNA with the RNase P protein subunits of Methanothermobacter thermoautotrophicus, to identify a functional homology between one or more of the archaeal proteins with the Bacillus subtilis RNase P protein. In this paper we consider the p-FEM for elliptic boundary value problems on tetrahedral meshes where the entries of the stiffness matrix are evaluated by numerical quadrature. Such a quadrature can be done by mapping the tetrahedron to a hexahedron via the Duffy transformation. We show that for tensor product Gauss-Lobatto-Jacobi quadrature formulas with q+1=p+1 points in each direction and shape functions that are adapted to the quadrature formula, one again has discrete stability for the fully discrete p-FEM. In this thesis, I assess the impact of data quality on the use of P-wave seabed seismic recordings for fracture characterisation. A noise removal technique for removing refracted noise from dual-sensor OBC records was developed and tested on 2D data. A practical correlation based approach to dual-sensor summation was devised, tested on real and synthetic data, and compared with existing approaches.
