This study analysed the impact of food trade dynamics on regional integration and food security among ECOWAS Member States. The study used secondary data covering a period of 43 years (1970 – 2012). Data used was sourced from FAOSTAT database. Analytical techniques employed include: Overall Openness Index (OPI); Intensity of Trade Index and Herfindahl index. The study revealed that smaller countries are more open to trade than the larger economies. The study concluded that regional intensity of trade (RIT) rose after the region became a free trade area (FTA), food trade diversification i

Abstract:
The authors explore the impact of crises on the dynamics of trade between partners within regional trade agreements (RTAs) with the aim to determine whether RTAs have a stabilizing effect on foreign trade. RTAs have become one of the main instruments of trade policy in recent decades. It is generally recognized that RTAs do stimulate trade at the time of stability and growth. It is logical to assume that meeting commitments between RTA partners should lead to the preservation of trade flows between them in the event of a crisis. However, this statement requires empirical confirmation. The stud

An empirical analysis of endogenous tariff formation under the framework of a regional trade agreement implemented by the Andean Community Group is offered in this dissertation. Econometric models for the group’s common external tariff (CET) and for individual country tariff deviations with respect to the CET are estimated. The analysis is based on cross-section

They are designed to respond to unfair trade practices or to compensate the negative impact on domestic industries resulting from tariff concessions made under the trade liberalization arrangements. Due to the importance of these instruments, the rules on TRMs are strengthened in the WTO legal framework and established on non-discriminatory basis towards all WTO Members.
