Today, there is a housing shortage in the larger cities. This together with the long housing waiting lists makes it difficult for younger people to make a housing career and invest in a condominium. In 2014, the Swedish Parliament introduced the reform of attefallshus with the aim of reducing the housing shortage in the country and facilitating entry into the housing market. The work studies whether an attefall block can be a favorable housing concept and an example of such a housing concept is designed. The purpose of the study is to analyze which legal obstacles limit a block of attefall hou

This thesis comprises of four experiments from which related but independent analyses were undertaken. The interventions employed were designed to investigate the effect of cardiovascular adaptation, both in the short and long term on the cardiovascular responses to orthostatic stress. The first study, described in Chapter 3, tested the hypothesis that the cardiovascular system (CVS) could adapt to repeated orthostatic challenges in a single session. 14 subjects were exposed to ten +75° head-up tilts (HUT) over 70 mins. Each tilt involved a 5 min supine period (SUPINE) followed b

The UDP-glucuronosyltransferases (UGTs) are a superfamily of enzymes that glucuronidate small, lipophilic molecules, thereby altering their biological activity and excretion. In humans, important examples of UGT substrates include molecules of both endogenous and xenobiotic origin; thus, UGTs are considered essential contributors to homeostatic regulation and an important defence mechanism against chemical insult. In keeping with both roles, UGTs are most strongly expressed in the liver, a predominant organ involved in detoxification. Rates of glucuronidation in humans are neither uniform amon

Competition among firms is a central feature in all free market economies such as South Africa. One of the biggest threats to competition is the presence of cartels in markets. Cartels are firms which collude and compete unfairly in order to obtain monopoly-like profits. For more than fifty years South Africa’s economic landscape has been dominated by a vast network of cartels invital industries, such as bread, cement and fertiliser. South Africa promulgated the Competition Act 89 of 1998 to eradicate cartels and promote and maintain competition within the South African economy. The Competitio

This paper discusses the history of auditor independence in the United States and the regulation of the public accounting profession over time. Special emphasis is put on the increasing importance that regulators have placed on the perception of auditor independence and on its effectiveness. Next, I analyze the efficacy of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 and provide several reasons for its shortcomings. Finally, I provide two distinct suggestions aimed at improving the current audit landscape.
