Human beings have an acceptable level of crowding above which their well-being will become significantly impaired. This study examined the social and psycho-physiological consequences of overcrowding on the well-being of IDPs. Data was gathered from 90 IDPs from the Dalori IDP camp in Maiduguri, Borno state, Nigeria. The study is anchored on Freedman's Density-Intensity Theory and Stokol's Overcrowding Theory, which posit that sensory inputs overload and perception of insufficient control over the environment impair human psych-physiological functioning, as well as engender feelings of learned

Abstract:
Quality care and improving health outcomes are cornerstones of healthcare provision, yet quality improvement (QI) preparation and assessment in health-professional education has been found to inadequately prepare graduates for their future roles (Robb et al., 2017). Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology’s Bachelor of Nursing (BN) year three teaching team looked to address this by reviewing and improving QI teaching and assessment modules within a course in the programme. Alongside this redevelopment, research with students was undertaken to investigate the efficacy and outcomes of this work. This

Abstract:
Despite progress in COVID-19 vaccination rates overall in Cleveland, vaccine inequity persists as young people from minoritised communities are often less likely to be vaccinated. Despite being over-represented in COVID-19 case counts and fatalities, Black residents were under-represented in COVID-19 vaccination during the first year and half of the pandemic. In Ohio, while roughly 60% of Cuyahoga County residents are fully vaccinated, just 45% of Cleveland residents are fully vaccinated. Lower-income, majority Black, east side neighbourhoods have markedly lower vaccination rates compared to h

Abstract:
Extreme heat, altered precipitation patterns, and flooding events, exacerbated by climate change, are changing the nature of 24-hour risk cycles faced by low-income neighbourhoods and informal settlements in the urban global South. In cities such as Karachi (Pakistan) and Nairobi (Kenya), climatic changes interact with existing forms of urban violence, generating new and complex landscapes of visible and invisible risks for residents. In this IDS Working Paper, we set out a framework for understanding the dynamic and varied risks that are affecting cities in East Africa and South Asia. We are

Abstract:
Invasive exotic plant (IEP) species are one of the biggest threats to natural ecosystem integrity and biodiversity. Controlling them is a high priority for the National Park Service. The Northern Colorado Plateau Network (NCPN) selected the early detection of IEPs as one of 11 monitoring protocols to be implemented as part of its long-term monitoring program. This report represents work completed during the 2021 field season at Golden Spike National Historical Park (NHP). On June 24–25, 2021, we recorded a total of six priority IEP species during monitoring at the park. A total of 191 priority

Abstract:
This rapid literature review finds that authorities use a range of methods to reduce insecurity in camps. Security in camps can be addressed through better planning of services by camp management, by more involvement of refugees, and through the use of outside security support. However, the militarisation of camps is a broader problem that requires political support from a number of stakeholders. The review focuses on insecurity arising from conflict (militarisation) and from crime and disputes within and around camps. It starts from the position that camps for refugees or internally displaced

This paper aims to supplement information from PISA 2018 using the Longitudinal Cohort Study on the Filipino Child (LCSFC). In particular, it explores relationships among schooling outcomes, bullying, and a common set of child, belongingness, family, and community background factors. For this analysis, schooling outcome is measured as being on track with schooling, i.e., children are in age-appropriate grades and have no missed or repeated school years. The bullying variables include physical bullying by friends/classmates, adults, and parents, as well as emotional bullying by friends/classmat
