Chemical conversion of a dihydrophloroglucinol preparation (a mixture of the tautomers 1,3,5-trihydroxy-1,3-cyclohexadiene, 1,3-dioxo-5-hydroxycyclohexane, and 3,5-dihydroxy-3-cyclohexene-1-one) to resorcinol occurred during a 24-h extraction of an acidic (pH 2.0) aqueous dihydrophloroglucinol preparation into ethyl acetate. This conversion did not occur at neutral pH, nor did phloroglucinol (1,3,5-trihydroxybenzene)-induced or succinate-induced Penicillium simplicissimum enzyme extracts convert the dihydrophloroglucinol preparation to resorcinol at pH values of 5.5–8.0. The current study presents a packed column gas chromatographic technique for the estimation of glycerin using a flame ionization detector from a marketed hair tonic in presence of resorcinol, ethanol, biotin, keratin hydrolysate, undecylenic acid alkylolamide (hyalkyl HBU), D-biotin, nicotinic acid, and polyvinylpyrrolidone. The validation studies show the proposed method to be specific, sensitive, precise, and accurate. The method is found to be linear in the concentration range 1.25 mg/mL to 10.02 mg/mL with r2 value 0.99. The limit of detection and the limit of quantitation were 0.01 mg/mL

The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) were determined and compared with those of standard antibiotics (penicillin, gentamicin and nystatin). The chemical composition of the oils was analyzed by capillary gas chromatography (GLC-FID) and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GLC-MS). A resorcinol-formaldehyde precursor was synthesized to fabricate the CO2 selective Carbon Molecular Sieve Membranes (CMSMs) developed in this study. The degree of polymerization (DP) was analyzed via Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) and its effect on the CO2/N2 perm-selectivity and CO2 permeance was investigated. The membrane that was polymerized at 80 °C (named R80) was selected as the best performing CMSM after a preliminary test. The post treatment with oxidative atmosphere was performed to increase the CO2 permeance and CO2/N2 perm-selectivity on membrane R80. The gas permeation results

Abstract Condensed tannins have formaldehyde gas-scavenging ability. Tannins consisting of phloroglucinol-type A-rings, such as prodelphinidin and procyanidin, had higher formaldehyde-scavenging ability than those consisting of resorcinol-type A-rings, such as prorobietinidin and profisetinidin. This ability was markedly improved by ammonia treatment. The increase in formaldehyde-scavenging ability was especially notable in the case of condensed tannins with a high ratio of pyrogallol-type B-rings, such as prorobietinidin and prodelphinidin.
