<em>The paper is aimed at identifying the factors influencing the responsiveness of textbooks and course readings at an academic library in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam. Using a quantitative approach, online survey was undertaken with 444 participants (370 undergraduates, 66 Master students and 8 PhD candidates). The findings from the study show that five groups of factors influenced the responsiveness of textbooks and course readings. They include textbook features, the publisher and author, the learner, library policy, and the teacher. Technology and Library staff had no influence on the respon

Commercially available lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is commonly used in research. Although protocols for its use are well established, we experienced a loss of LPS responsiveness in our cell cultures despite no obvious experimental changes. Our cell lines were stimulated with LPS and the media quantified for LPS responsiveness via an IL-8 ELISA. We discovered that the major cause of signal loss was differences in fetal bovine serum (FBS) formulation and concentration. One FBS formulation was notably better at eliciting an IL-8 signal than the second FBS, and 10% FBS in media was better at inducing

Police officers make decisions at the street level in a variety of situations that have direct impact on quality of life, justice in society, and individual freedom. These decisions inherently involve the exercise of discretion, since successfully performed police tasks are linked to the officer's choosing among alternative courses of action. Appropriateness of unsupervised decisions taken under street contingencies remains questionable in terms of police-behavior legitimacy. Law enforcement agencies seek ways to control excessive discretion to avoid undesired consequences of police discretion

This publication provides guidance for borrowers on how to prepare a bidding document for an admeasurement (unit price) type of works contract using FIDIC Red Book (2017) general terms and conditions. It also covers how to evaluate bids and award contracts, based on the Asian Development Bank’s Standard Bidding Document for the Procurement of Works for cases “with” and “without” prequalification. Abstract:
This paper explores Pakistan’s electricity supply crisis that lasted from 2007 to 2015, and the ensuing contention that shaped public discourse and political events in the country. During this period, which witnessed electricity outages of up to 14 hours per day, 456 incidents of contention took place, with just under 20 per cent escalating into some form of violence. Electricity became the number one political issue in the country and was integral in shaping the outcomes of the 2013 General Election. Following the election, public authorities undertook extensive investment to expand capacity

Abstract:
Most of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Ethiopia and Uganda are adopting e-learning to increased demand for, and to widen access to higher education. However, e-learning has not yet been fully embraced. Adoption of e-learning technologies in many universities in Ethiopia and Uganda is still ad hoc; and efforts towards full utilization of e-learning in HEIs are still undermined by many factors. This study has been conducted to explore institutional policy challenges, strategies, and reforms required to embrace all-inclusive online academic programmes. Guided by explanatory-sequential mi

Abstract:
The project investigated the molecular genetic and biochemical basis of pollination-induced senescence of Phalaenopsis flowers. This experimental system offered unique advantages in that senescence is strictly regulated by pollination, providing the basis to experimentally initiate and synchronize senescence in populations of flowers. The postpollination syndrome in the Phalaenopsis orchid system was dissected by investigating the temporal and spatial regulation of ACC synthase gene expression. In the stigma, pollen-borne auxin induces the expression of the auxin-regulated ACC synthase (PS-ACS

Abstract:
The corpus luteum (CL) is a transient endocrine gland that has a vital role in the regulation of the estrous cycle, fertility and the maintenance of pregnancy. In the absence of appropriate support, such as occurs during maternal recognition of pregnancy, the CL will regress. Prostaglandin F2a (PGF) was first suggested as the physiological luteolysin in ruminants several decades ago. Yet, the cellular mechanisms by which PGF causes luteal regression remain poorly defined. In recent years it became evident that the process of luteal regression requires a close cooperation between steroidogenic,

The experiences and marginalisation of international organisation employees with caring responsibilities has a direct negative impact on the type of security and justice being built in conflict-affected environments. This is in large part because international organisations fail to respond to the needs of those with caring responsibilities, which leads to their early departure from the field, and negatively affects their work while in post. In this toolkit we describe this problem, the exacerbating factors, and challenges to overcoming it. We offer a theory of change demonstrating how caring f

The Global Observation Research Initiative in Alpine Environments (GLORIA) is a world-wide network of sites dedicated to monitoring changes in alpine flora near mountain tops. In this project we analyzed data collected at 5 sets of GLORIA monitoring sites in the Rocky Mountains of the western USA. Each site was visited between 2 and 4 times in the years spanning 2003 to 2021. These sites include four National Parks (Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, Rocky Mountain National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Glacier National Park) and one wilderness area in the Pecos Wilderness wit

Abstract:
Senescence is an agriculturally significant process due to its negative impact to crop yield and postharvest quality. The genetic regulatory systems controlling senescence induction and progress respond to both developmental and environmental stress signals and involve numerous gene expression changes. Knowledge about the key molecular factors which control senescence is very limited. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small RNAs which typically function by guiding cleavage of target messenger RNAs. They have been shown to play major roles in a variety of plant processes including development,
