Introduction. A hygienic assessment of the fluoride ions, heavy metals (HM) and arsenic content in the soils of the roadside area of the Ryazan-Volgograd highway was carried out. Materials and methods. The assessment was obased on the results of soil sampling from 11 sites over the Ryazan-Volgograd highway along its entire length at distances of 20 and 50 m from the roadbed. To assess the impact of vehicles on roadside soil pollution and exclude industrial sources of pollution, soil samples were taken outside settlements and industrial zones of cities. Results. Runoff from highways contains significant loads of heavy metals and hydrocarbons. According to German regulations, it should be infiltrated over embankments to support groundwater-recharge. To investigate the decontaminating effect of greened embankments, soil-monoliths from highways with high traffic densities were taken. Soils were analyzed to characterize the contamination in relation to distance and depth for lead, zinc, copper, cadmium, PAH and MOTH. A detailed study was conducted to determine the current statues of Pb pollution in roadside dusts in Hebi city, China. Thirty-two dust samples were collected from major traffic streets in Hebi city, and then analyzed to determine the concentrations, distribution, and assessment of Pb in roadside dusts. The results showed that Pb exhibited higher metal concentrations (77.88 mg/kg for mean) than the local soil background values, indicating that the pollution may come from local anthropogenic input. The assessment by Geoaccumulation Index indicates that the roadside dusts in Hebi city was ranked

Pollution of natural environment due to release of heavy metals from various sources is a widespread problem throughout the world. This study explains the effect of heavy metal contaminants in Roadside soil of Morena district. Twelve air dried surface soil samples were collected from 50cm – 1m (point A) and twelve from 30m (point B) away from the roadside along a road with a distance of 50 km. Heavy metals were found in both points with highest concentration at 50cm – 1m (point A). There are different pollution sources, which affect soil including transportation, especially in highways. These effects can be assessed by Environmental Impact Assessment. In this study, seven sampling stations were selected in different distances (0, 10, 20, 50, 100 meter) along Tehran- Karaj highway. Samples were collected and their concentrations of Pb were measured using a FAAS after dry acid digestion. It was observed that the highway had a negative impact on the peripheral soil. The assessment of pollution levels of heavy metals soil contamination is significant to the health of human kind. Two methods, Set Pair Analysis (SPA) and Geoaccumulation Index (Igeo), are applied to assess the urban roadside soil heavy metals pollution levels and compare the assessment results with Fuzzy Comprehensive Analysis (FCA). The assessment results of SPA are inconsistent with the FCA. The ranks of roadside soil heavy metals, assessed by Igeo, indicate that the result of FCA is determined by most contaminated heavy metal, the SPA is determined by the contents distribution of all eleme

Road transport is one of the biggest soil polluter. There are a lot of investigations of soil pollution near highways, but soil pollution near gravel roadsides needs more experimental research. In this experimental study we selected gravel road Juseviciai – Budvietis – Derviniai and analyzed soil pollution near this road. Soil samples were collected on both sides of the road by making the transversal profile, the sampling points move away of the road at a distance 1; 2; 5; 10 meters, the samples were collected in 600 meters long strip.
