Abstract:
In this paper, we recover the amplitude of a seismic image by approximating the normal (demigrationmigration)operator. In this approximation, we make use of the property that curvelets remain invariant under the action of the normal operator. We propose a seismic amplitude recovery method that employs an eigenvalue like decomposition for the normal operator using curvelets as eigen-vectors. Subsequently, we propose an approximate non-linear singularity-preserving solution to the least-squares seismic imaging problem with sparseness in the curvelet domain and spatial continuity constraints.

The United States Army has moved into the 21st century with the intent of redesigning not only the force structure but also the methods by which we will fight and win our nation's wars. In an effort to minimize exposure of front line soldiers the future Army will utilize unmanned assets for both information gathering and when necessary engagements. Yet this must be done judiciously, as the bandwidth for net-centric warfare is limited. The implication is that the FCS must be designed to leverage bandwidth i

This thesis deals with the topic of min-max formulations of robust model predictive control problems. The sets involved in guaranteeing robust feasibility of the min-max program in the presence of state constraints are of particular interest, and expanding the applicability of well understood solvers of linearly constrained quadratic min-max programs is the main focus. To this end, a generalisation for the set of uncertainty is considered: instead of fixed bounds on the uncertainty, state- and input-dependent bounds are used. Different prerequisites for war exists and varies due to the terrain. Cities, mountains and covered terrain all creates their special conditions for the battle. The biggest difference in methods is found between the urban warfare and all the other ways of fighting in war. Combined arms constitutes the fundamentals of fighting a war, and organizing armed forces. But if the environment of the war is changing, the different prerequisites of combined arms need to change. The purpose of this study is to survey the distinguishing differences and prerequisites between the two kinds of environments, d

In 2011, a coalition of member states in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization together with partner nations outside of the alliance cooperated against the Libyan regime led by Colonel Muammar Khadaffi. The primary goals of the operations in Libya were to protect the civil population from attacks by the Libyan regime, maintain the no-flyzone and arms embargo. The operations in Libya proved to be successful and many authors claims that airpower were the main key to the victory.John A. Warden III and Robert A. Recent aggressions and geopolitical insecurities in the Baltic region have made it necessary for the Swedish armed forces to change their focus from an international defense policy to a territorial defense strategy. This change focuses mainly on strengthening the defensive capabilities of the Swedish armed Forces by reshaping the brigade structures with a focus on combined arms warfare in conjunction to maneuver warfare. Current doctrine and manuals show a lack in combined arms concerning its contribution to tactical success as well as its origin. As such a question whether tactical success ca

The purpose of the Boy Scout Movement was to create boys who were honest, obedient to constituted authority and loyal to the King and the British Empire. This thesis examines the influence that Scouting's founder, Lord Robert Baden-Powell, had on the development of Scouting in Queensland in the period 1907 to 1937, and concludes that that influence was profound. Baden-Powell conceived the Boy Scout Movement, and its non-formal educative method as an answer to some of the social, economic, and political problems at the beginning of the twentieth century – a paradigm recognised and acknowledged

Abstract:
The gopher tortoise is a land tortoise living in the southeastern United States. It is a species in decline and is listed as threatened or endangered in six different states. The gopher (as commonly referred) digs burrows that it uses for many reasons and spends most of its time underground. Problems occur when trying to estimate a population because a gopher tortoise digs more than one burrow. This thesis demonstrates an innovative way to survey and investigate a gopher tortoise burrow hole by using a multi-tracked remotely operated vehicle. The vehicle carried two cameras (fore and aft) and

Accompanying the continuous growth of the aquaculture fish farming industry in the recent years, the usage of Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV) for regular inspections of net integrity has become increasingly common. For a human ROV operator, routine inspections can be repetitious and time consuming, and improving the regularity and efficiency of these operations are of interest. The aim of this study was therefore be to develop a robust technique for automatic detection of net damage with an ROV mounted camera and computer vision, which later can be employed either as an aid for a human operat
