Abstract:
A ceramic turbocharger rotor (CTR) for high-temperature use has been developed. The features of this rotor are the use of silicon nitride, which maintains high mechanical strength up to 1200°C, and a new joining technique between the ceramic rotor and its metal shaft. The CTR is expected to cope with stoichiometric mixture burning engines, which produce a higher exhaust gas temperature for fuel economy, and the impact resistance of the rotor against foreign object damage (FOD) has been markedly increased, over that of earlier rotors, resulting in higher reliability. Weld repair of steam turbine rotors has become an acceptable practice to extend the life of rotors. Depending on the type of damage, the extent of weld repair can range from weld build-up of integral discs to stubbing a new forging to replace the damaged portion of an old rotor. Steam turbine rotors made of low alloy steels experience corrosion related damages such as stress corrosion cracking, pitting corrosion, corrosion-erosion etc., Traditional weld repairs have been using low alloy steel welds. Due to the lack of air resistance and the lack of friction force, the rotor can rotate for a long time. But the rotor, located inside the vacuum, also slows down.

Abstract The effect of various alloying elements on caustic SCC of 3.5 NiCrMoV steel for turbine rotor forgings was studied. From the results, a 3.5 NiCrMoV steel in which P was reduced to 0.003% from the present 0.005% level and Nb was added to 0.03% has been developed as a rotor material, resistant to SCC. It is confirmed that the developed steel has a higher resistance to SCC and to temper embrittlement, and has equivalent tensile properties and toughness to that of recently produced rotors. In addition, the role of P and Nb in caustic SCC was also discussed.
