Abstract:
Reasoning Mind (RM) incorporates aspects of Russian mathematics pedagogy and curricula into its online math program. Our investigation identifies typical attributes of Russian pedagogy discussed in news articles and publications by Russian education experts, then determines how these attributes arise in RM. Analysis of RM's implementation of the characteristics reveals more successful inclusion of curricular attributes than classroom strategies. Thus, we outline classroom techniques that could be assimilated into RM to provide a more Russian learning experience along with students' exposure to

Abstract:
Research based on children's performance on standard false-belief reasoning tasks indicates that theory of mind (ToM) understanding, (i.e. the ability to represent, conceptualize, and reason about one's own and others' mental states) is initially absent and develops around the age of four years (Wellman et al., 2001). Recently, researchers have investigated the relationship between language and ToM development. According to de Villiers & Pyers (2002) understanding of embedded complement structures is necessary for children to be able to understand false belief, because both require the abili

Pera, Pia Giuseppina. "Theoretical and practical aspects of the debate on marriage among the priestless Old Believers from the end of the seventeenth century to the mid-nineteenth century." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 1986. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/1317882/.

Abstract:
The priestless Old believers did not have the sacrament of marriage because they did not have a priesthood. Unions between men and women were therefore regarded as sinful, and this difficult situation caused much debate. In this dissertation, the history of the debate itself is studied both for its Intrinsic interest and as a means to explore the development of the ideas, beliefs and behaviour of priestless Old Believers. Chapter 1 is devoted to the resolutions of the Novgorod council of 1694, including the prohibition of marriage, and to Feodosy Vasil'ev (1661-1711), who was an active partici

This thesis examines the Mid Upper Palaeolithic (MUP) of Russia (ca. 30,000-20,000 14C BP). During this time, as in the rest of Europe, the principal archaeological industry is known as the Gravettian. However, in Russia two other industries, the Streletskayan and the Gorodtsovian, are also known from the beginning of the MUP. Historically, there have been significant problems integrating the Russian MUP record with that from the rest of Europe. The research described in this thesis concentrates on backed lithic assemblages (including Gravette points, microgravettes, other backed points and ba

Abstract:
This thesis seeks to develop recent research into Russian literature, which has applied semiotic theory to a feminist critique, to explore how spaces may be gendered as feminine or masculine. This thesis will adopt a similar feminist and semiotic approach, but will focus not upon gendered spaces, but barriers, the ‘imagery of enclosure’. I will argue that barriers are both ‘engendered’, and ‘gendered’, in the sense that they often relate to female characters. These barriers are sub-divided into three distinct types, which will be termed ‘textual’, ‘actual’ and ‘perceived’ barriers. This revisi

Abstract:
The Old Believers were the largest group of Orthodox dissenters in Russia. In 1853, the government introduced a new system of measures aiming at their eradication. These marked the highest point of religious persecution during the final century-and-a-half of Imperial Russia. This thesis explains what lay behind these extreme policies, examines how they were implemented and the reasons behind their abandonment in 1855. Rather than seeing the system as the result of the autocratic reaction of these years, it argues that it derived from wider processes of modernisation in the political, intellect

Abstract:
The characteristic glacial and interglacial cycles of the Pleistocene underwent a climatic transition at ~430 ka known as the Mid- Brunhes Event (MBE). Many studies, particularly from the Southern Hemisphere have noted that after this transition, the amplitude of the climatic cycles increased. Despite the indication of an MBE signal in many globally distributed paleoclimate records, the geographic extent of the climatic transition remains unknown and its presence in northern hemisphere and terrestrial records is debated.
