Abstract:
The Cameri Theatre of Tel Aviv has always presented itself as the first repertory theater in the Yishuv that represented the sabras, creating the impression that its actors and artists were themselves mainly sabras and Hebrew their native language. However, this image, based chiefly on the successful performance of the play He Walked through the Fields, does not reflect reality. The article questions the myth by exploring the actual number of sabra theater artists and actors in the troupe, their place and measure of influence. Exposing this image sheds light on The Cameri Theatre at its beginning as well as on the creation of the image of the sabra, as presented by the character of Uri, and embraced by Hebrew culture.

Abstract:
Since the mid-1980s, generations of displaced people have sought refuge in the ramshackle buildings that were once the Gaza-Ramallah Hospital, a multi-story hospital complex built by the Palestinian Liberation Organization (plo). Damaged during the civil war, today the buildings blend in with the run-down Sabra-Shatila neighbourhood in Beirut’s “misery belt.” This paper charts the buildings’ history and main characters: the lodgers, landlords, and gatekeepers who respectively lease, rent, and control the dilapidated buildings’ dark corridors, cramped flats, and garbage-strewn stairways. The multi-story buildings are examples of emergency urbanism whereby displaced people seek refuge in cities, and their story can be read as a vertical migration history of people escaping conflict, displacement, and destitution. Examining the buildings as archives of spatial and political histories provides a genealogy of displacement and emplacement that can inform the study of emergency urbanism and point to solutions in cities for refugees lacking access to affordable housing.

Abstract:
1. To investigate the possibility that arterial hypertension is associated with changes in the physicochemical properties of cell membranes, we have studied the effects of dietary salt loading on platelet membrane microviscosity in hypertension-prone and -resistant Sabra rats. 2. Sixteen hypertension-prone and 14 hypertension-resistant Sabra rats were submitted to either a low-salt (0.25% NaCl) or a high-salt (4% NaCl) diet for 3–4 weeks. Platelet membrane anisotropy was determined, in the presence and absence of extracellular Na+, using two fluorescent probes, diphenylhexatriene and trimethylamino-diphenylhexatriene, inserted in different areas of the cell membranes. 3. A decrease in diphenylhexatriene anisotropy was demonstrated when platelets of hypertension-prone (but not hypertension-resistant) Sabra rats were suspended in a Na+-free medium. This alteration in membrane dynamic properties is localized within the hydrophobic core of the platelet membranes and is independent of salt intake. It reflects an abnormal fluidizing effect of extracellular Na+ removal. 4. Platelets of hypertension-prone and hypertension-resistant Sabra rats did not differ significantly in trimethylamino-diphenylhexatriene fluorescence anisotropy, irrespective of the incubation media used. Extracellular Na+ removal caused an increase in trimethylamino-diphenylhexatriene fluorescence anisotropy in all groups, the change being greatest in salt-loaded rats. 5. This study indicates that platelet membrane microviscosity is specifically altered in the hypertension-prone Sabra rat irrespective of salt intake. This raises the question of the relation of this inherited defect with the susceptibility of this strain to dietary salt loading.

Abstract:
In a 2 year study of 171 female (101 virgin; 70 multiparous) 'Sabra' rats, spontaneous endometrial tumours were found in 69% of 2 year old animals. Tumour development appeared to be age related, and only virgin females showed tumours before 18 months of age. Polyps were the most prevalent tumour type, followed by adenocarcinomas. The Sabra rat can be included among those rat strains having a high incidence of spontaneous endometrial neoplasia.

Abstract:
This study examines ideas about and photographs of the Sabra, a small yet influential grouping within Zionism that emerged in Jewish Palestine circa 1930 to play a heroic role in the creation of Israel. Drawing inspiration from labour Zionism, at its height the movement is claimed to have numbered twenty thousand people. The Sabra had its own ideals and values that were emulated throughout Jewish society in Palestine. The Sabra became one of the appealing myths in Zionism because of the sacrifice in combat, role in military leadership, and (subsequently) in government. Zionist agencies promoted the Sabra as the fulfilment of the Utopian new Jew, lauded in the press and in fiction. However, a group of intellectuals in the 1960s, assaulted and soon eroded, the mythical status of the Sabra, arguing that their devotion and sacrifice to the state at the expense of individual needs and aspirations was both unhealthy and encouraged a view of the chosen few whose commitment to the state was of a higher order than that of ordinary men and women serving their country, a view that many rejected. Some scholars dismiss the Sabra as an irrelevance, a product of fiction, or propaganda campaigns of early Zionism, and of marginal factual significance in Israeli history. Aside from prominent figures, many Sabra rank remain unknown, so many of the photographs shown here are inventions of what young pioneers should look like, show what was expected of them, and whose main purpose was about persuading others to join the cause and build a country. There is no doubt that myths and folk-tales were as important to Zionism as they were to National Socialism. Both were premised on a blood and soil ideology, and it is Sabra ideals as expressed in photographs that are considered here. The Sabra ethos underpinned the colonial aspirations of Zionism. This study examines Zionism as a colonial movement.

La recherche entend interroger les fonctions de la littérature et de l’art relativement à un événement violent qui fait l’objet d’un tabou, à savoir le massacre perpétré dans les camps de réfugiés palestiniens de Sabra et Chatila (16-18 septembre 1982), à Beyrouth. Elle s’y applique à partir d’un présupposé : il n’y a pas seulement effraction du réel dans l’art, l’art est le temps à l’œuvre (P. Ricœur, A. Compagnon). La démarche part du constat d’un triple déficit d’histoire, de culte des morts et de justice. Il s’agit d’un événement tu : on le dira tabou. Par ailleurs, elle prend acte de l’émergence d’un corpus d’œuvres dans les champs de la littérature, du cinéma, de l’art contemporain. Dès lors, la recherche entend ausculter les fonctions politiques de la poétique (J. Rancière). Plusieurs hypothèses sont formulées qui ensemble signalent le caractère à la fois transitif et performatif de l’art et de la littérature : d’une part, au regard d’une vérité non avérée dans les livres d’histoire, et du mal de vérité qui en résulte (C. Coquio), les œuvres ont vocation à dire ce que l’histoire tait (I. Jablonka, E. Bouju, A. Imhoff, K. Quirós) ; d’autre part, les victimes n’ayant pas été enterrées, les œuvres déposent une stèle à l’endroit de son manque, rétablissant des égalités en direction de corps qui ne comptent pas (J. Coquio).Située au croisement des études postcoloniales et des études de genre, la recherche examine la politicité de la littérature et de l’art à partir d’un corpus de 14 œuvres prélevées aussi bien à l’épicentre qu’aux périphéries de l’événement<br>The research questions the functions of literature and art in relation to a violent event that is a taboo subject, namely the massacre perpetrated in the Palestinian refugee camps of Sabra and Shatila (16-18 September 1982 ), in Beirut. It applies to it with a presupposition: there is not only the breaking of reality in art, art is the time at work (P. Ricœur, A. Compagnon). The process begins with the observation of a triple deficit most evident in historiography, in cult of the dead and justice. This is an event that is held secret: we will call it taboo. In addition, it takes note of the emergence of a corpus of works in the fields of literature, cinema, contemporary art. From then on, the research intends to auscultate the political functions of poetics (J. Rancière). Several hypotheses are formulated which together signal the transitive and performative character of art and literature: on the one hand, in the shade of a truth not recorded in history books, i.e. of the melancholy of truth resulting from this missing (C. Coquio), the works are meant to tell what history conceals (I. Jablonka, E. Bouju, A. Imhoff, K. Quirós); on the other hand, since the victims have not been buried, the works deposit a stele at the place of its absence, restoring equalities towards bodies that do not count (J. Butler); finally, faced with a judicial irresolution which signifies the undecidable character of the event, they operate, through their symbolic mediations, the rehabilitating clinic not only of the human being, but also of the language and the authority of sense (A. Gefen, C. Coquio). Il seguente elaborato presenta la proposta di traduzione verso l’italiano del libro di poesia per l’infanzia “¿Sabrá volar el mar?” (2010), dell’autore spagnolo José Corredor-Matheos, illustrato da Noemí Villamuza ed edito dalla casa editrice spagnola El Jinete Azul. “¿Sabrá volar el mar?” è composto da 25 poesie brevi ed è diviso in 4 sezioni, ognuna delle quali ha un titolo che suggerisce al lettore le tematiche affrontate nelle poesie seguenti. Le poesie raccolte in questo libro creano un complesso gioco di specchi e ci invitano a guardare ciò che ci circonda da un punto di vista diverso, a porci delle domande su quanto diamo per scontato e a vedere la vita come un assurdo e inutile mistero a cui abbandonarsi con gioia e spontaneità. Si tratta di un libro “atipico” ed eterogeneo, con componimenti che si rifanno a una ninna nanna, altri a un haiku giapponese e altri ancora alla tradizione classica occidentale. Una raccolta di poesie che possono essere apprezzate tanto dai bambini quanto dagli adulti, perché il linguaggio delle emozioni è comprensibile a tutte le età. Durante il processo di traduzione è stato necessario prestare particolare attenzione all’aspetto fonetico e ritmico, alla stretta interazione tra parole e immagini, alle metafore e alle scelte lessicali. Il lavoro è suddiviso in diverse sezioni: un’introduzione di riflessione sul lavoro del poeta e del traduttore, seguita dal motivo della scelta del libro; la presentazione del libro originale e del suo autore; la proposta di traduzione con relativo commento alle problematiche traduttive e alle diverse strategie impiegate; l’intervista realizzate all’editore Antonio Ventura; una scheda di presentazione editoriale; e infine una breve analisi del ruolo della letteratura e in particolare della poesia, sia per l’infanzia che per un pubblico adulto.

Notre tache est de montrer comment identifier, dans le texte de presse, des structures narratives, comment les fonder epistemologiquement, comment developper des modeles ou le proces de la generation et de la reception du texte de presse serait decrit en termes verifiables. Car l'art journalistique est un art de la connaissance et non seulement un art de la communication il rend intelligible ce qui nous est donne sensoriellement. Et c'est justement dans cette intelligibilite que reside l'art de conter, et d'ou provient celui de raconter<br>Our thesis serves various purposes. The main one is to get the press text out of its "splendid" typographical loneliness , to comprehend it and make it comprehend as a semiotical object. Our job is to show how to identify narrative structures into the press text, how to found these structures epistemologic ly, how to develop demonstration models wich make out the process of press text's production and reception. Abstract:
Les études épidémiologiques faites chez l'homme soulignent l'importance du sel dans l'hypertension artérielle (HTA). L'origine génétique de la sensibilité au sel est renforcée par la sélection de modèles animaux développant ou non une HTA lors d'une surcharge alimentaire en sel. Dans le rein, l'excrétion du sodium et de l'eau est sous contrôle des récepteurs α2-adrénergiques et en conséquence, ces récepteurs divisés en une famille aux caractéristiques pharmacologiques distinctes jouent donc un rôle prépondérant dans le maintien de la pression artérielle. De plus les différents travaux réalisés sur les modèles animaux d'HTA ont souligné l'importance des androgènes et plus particulièrement de la testostérone dans la génèse de l'hypertension artérielle, mais aussi dans la variation de certaines caractéristiques fonctionnelles et structurales du rein. En utilisant le rat Sabra, un modèle génétique d'HTA induite par le sel, nous avons étudié dans le rein, l'expression génique des différents sous-types de récepteurs α2-adrénergiques et les conséquences au niveau de leur distribution. Nous avons évalué ensuite l'importance des hormones sexuelles et plus particulièrement de la testostérone dans cette forme d'HTA et leur impact dans le rein au niveau des récepteurs aradrénergiques. Cette étude nous permet de montrer : I. Chez le rat Sabra sensible au sel (SBH), seule l'isoforme α2B-adrénergique est présente dans le rein alors que les récepteurs α2A et α2B sont retrouvés chez le SBN résistant au sel. Si la haute densité en récepteurs α2B-adrénergiques participe ou est impliquée dans le phénotype hypertensif, sa surexpression qui est aussi observée chez le SBN lors de la surcharge en sel suggère que ce n'est pas le facteur exclusif à favoriser l'HTA du rat SBH. Il est en fait évident, que l'absence du sous-type α2A-adrénergique chez le SBH peut être responsable de la perte de certaines fonctions rénales dépendantes de ces récepteurs, prédisposant cette souche de rat à la sensibilité au sel. Au contraire, la présence de ce sous­type chez le rat SB, et sa surexpression lors de la surcharge en sel, peut protéger cet animal contre le développement de l'hypertension induite par le sel. II. La gonadectomie protège le rat SBH de l'HTA induite par la surcharge en sel alors que, l'apport exogène en testostérone restaure cette susceptibilité. Dans le rein, l'expression génique et la distribution en récepteurs α2-adrénergiques sont différemment influencées par les androgènes. Ainsi donc, la testostérone est indispensable à favoriser une haute densité et une surexpression des récepteurs α2B-adrénergiques lors de la surcharge en sel. A l'inverse, chez ce rat SBH, la présence de testostérone réprime l'expression de l'isoforme α2 A-adrénergique. La présence rénale du récepteur α2A­ adrénergique qui est associée à l'absence d'HTA du rat SBH gonadectomisé lors de la surcharge en sel, renforce ainsi donc le rôle potentiel de ce sous-type à favoriser un état de résistance au développement de l'hypertension dépendante du sel. Cet état est dépendant des androgènes. En conclusion, ces résultats renforcent le rôle potentiel que jouent les différentes isoformes des récepteurs α2-adrénergiques dans le développement de l'HTA dépendante du sel. Ces isoformes qui ont des actions contraires au niveau de la pression artérielle sont de plus modulées d'une façon opposée par la testostérone. Ces résultats soulignent l'importance de la testostérone, et principalement en termes de sensibilité ou de résistance au sel, dans la pathophysiologie de l'hypertension artérielle.

Abstract:
Une méthodologie cathodoluminescence a été élaborée pour révéler les modifications ou redistributions des défauts ponctuels induits par les processus d'évolution des matériaux du patrimoine , associée à la synthèse dirigée afin de disposer de matériaux parfaitement connus, et croisée à des méthodes telles que la Résonance Paramagnétique Electronique et la Microscopie Electronique à Balayage. Notre choix s'est porté sur des matériaux du patrimoine pour lesquels le point commun est d'être structuré autour d'une charpente d'oxygènes : des carbonates de calcium et des silicates. Nous avons démontré pour les carbonates de calcium, le rôle essentiel de l'ion Mn 2+ et l'absence du rôle des ions Fe 2+ et Fe 3+ dans le processus de CL. Nous avons explicité l'évolution du signal de la calcite sous l'effet du bombardement électronique, révélant l'importance de la maîtrise des conditions opératoires. Des matériaux anciens, tels que des marbres antiques ont été analysés, dans l'objectif de valider les résultats obtenus sur les matériaux de synthèse. Cet objectif atteint, nous avons alors pu mieux suivre le processus de formation des calcaires à Astéries. Or, la pollution crée aujourd'hui de réels problèmes de conservation, traités à l'heure actuelle notamment par la technique laser qui suscite quelques controverses, dont le jaunissement du matériau. La méthodologie CL mise au point a permis de conclure à l'innocuité de la technique laser, qui respecte l'épiderme de la pierre. [etc. . . . ]

Cette thèse revient sur l’histoire du camp de réfugiés palestiniens de Chatila, situé dans la banlieue sud de Beyrouth, depuis sa fondation en 1949 jusqu’à nos jours, en mettant l’accent plus particulièrement sur la période du conflit libanais (1975-1990) et ses lendemains. À partir d’une variation des échelles d’analyse, il s’agit de mieux comprendre comment des événements marquants de l’histoire palestinienne et libanaise se sont déclinés et articulés à la vie du camp et y ont résonné. La recherche interroge les recompositions sociopolitiques et urbaines dans le camp, les parcours individuels et familiaux, ainsi que les traces et les usages du passé de guerre à la lumière de l’histoire de Chatila. Elle s’appuie sur plusieurs enquêtes ethnographiques menées entre 2003 et 2011 et sur les archives de l’UNWRA. Cette réflexion s’est développée au sein du champ de recherches de l’anthropologie politique et urbaine et de la socio-anthropologie de la mémoire<br>This thesis revisits the history of Shatila Palestinian refugee camp that is located in the southern suburb of Beirut, from its foundation in 1949 to nowadays. I focus more specifically on the period of the Lebanese conflict (1975-1990) and its aftermath. Using different analytical scales, it aims to better understand how striking events of the Palestinian and Lebanese history impacted and were echoed in the camp life. My research examines the social, political and urban transformation, individual and familial courses and the traces, as well as uses of the past of the war in light of the history of Shatila. The research is based on ethnographical fieldwork in Shatila conducted between 2003 and 2011 and on the archives of UNRWA. The analysis is part of the field of political and urban anthropology, and of memory in anthropology and sociology

Le branding de l’identité israélienne constitue le thème principal de cette thèse. Ce dernier se fonde sur l’autocritique constante que pratiquent les Israéliens, et le sentiment continu de flou et de perte de repères que suscite leur identité. Le débat sur le branding de l’identité représente l’une des caractéristiques de l’« esprit israélien ». Quel est le rapport entre l’identité juive et l’identité israélienne ? Les Israéliens devraient-ils choisir entre les deux ? L’existence juive dépend-elle de l’espace géographique de la Terre d’Israël ou la diaspora a-t-elle une place dans l’identité ? Le nouvel Hébreu-juif incarne-t-il un fondement nécessaire à l’élaboration de cette identité ? L’identité israélienne pourrait-elle se détacher de son lien avec le passé ? Comment les Israéliens se confrontent-ils aux deux cultures qui dominent leur existence, la culture libérale occidentale et la culture juive traditionnelle ?Cette thèse se propose d’explorer la nature de l’identité ‒ complexe ‒ des Israéliens et d’examiner une gamme étendue de sujets et d’événements qui ont préoccupé et préoccupent la société israélienne du passé à nos jours.L’objectif en est de contribuer au débat sur les « réflexions juives et israéliennes ». En effet la vie des Israéliens se caractérise par autant de moments d’exaltation que de doute face à leur flou identitaire et existentiel. Leurs interrogations portent tout autant sur leur existence physique et spirituelle que sur les difficultés d’élaboration d’une identité personnelle et publique, à l’orée d’une guerre culturelle entre tenants de croyances diverses et groupes communautaires antagonistes dans un État dont le caractère démocratique et juif constitue le point nodal du débat public, et où la domination politique oscille entre hégémonies sociales en déclin d’une part et marges sociales en pleine ascension de l’autre. Il parait donc essentiel d’examiner la façon dont les Israéliens envisagent leur identité, et d’explorer les paramètres du débat censé élucider les ambigüités de l’identité israélienne contemporaine. En outre, cette thèse se propose d’exposer les stratégies idéologiques déployées par les dirigeants juifs (hommes d’État, chefs militaires, intellectuels et prescripteurs d’opinion) du XVIIIe siècle à nos jours qui furent utilisées pour imprimer aux immigrants d’Israël la marque identitaire « Nouveau Juif » à travers les codes nationaux, le patriotisme et la culture, en recourant à l’héritage collectif pour créer des mythes, un éthos, des narratifs et des symboles nationaux<br>The branding of the Israeli identity constitutes the main topic of the present thesis. This theme is grounded in the Israelis’ ever-present practice of self-criticism and sense of confusion and disorientation in matters related to identity. The debate on identity branding is a reflection of the ‘Israeli spirit’.What is the relationship between Jewish and Israeli identity? Should Israelis make a choice between the two? Does Jewish existence depend on the geographic space of the land of Israel, or does the Diaspora have a share in the identity? Does the new Jewish-Hebrew embody a necessary foundation for identity formation? Could Israeli identity disconnect itself from the Jewish past? How do Israelis deal with their two dominant cultures, the Western liberal culture on the one hand and the traditional Jewish culture on the other?This dissertation proposes to explore the complex nature of Israeli identity through the examination of a vast array of issues and events that have been of concern to Israeli society in the past and are today. Our goal is to contribute to and foster debate in the field of Jewish and Israeli thought. The life of Israelis wavers between exaltation and self-doubt in the face of existential and identity blurriness. Israelis constantly wonder about their physical as well as spiritual existence, and about the difficult structuring of their personal and public identity, on the brink of a culture war between believers in various creeds and between communities at odds with one another, in a country whose Jewish and democratic character is at the core of public debate and where political domination wavers between declining hegemonic socio-economic groups and a periphery on the rise.It thus appears essential to explore the ways in which Israelis view their own identity and the terms of the debate that could dispel the ambiguity of contemporary Israeli identity. In addition, this dissertation examines the ideological strategies that have been deployed by the Jewish leadership (statesmen, military chiefs, intellectuals and opinion molders) from the eighteenth century to the present and were used to instill the ‘New Jew’ identity brand in immigrant populations through national codes, culture and patriotism, while relying on the common heritage to create a series of myths and an ethos, as well as national narratives and symbol
