Car accidents, a major US public safety issue, demand precise analysis and predictive models for mitigation. This study asks the following question: Can the safest car routes across the US be determined? The paper analyzes historical data to forecast future accidents and calculates the safest route between two locations. The study builds a predictive model utilizing statistical analyses, data mining, and machine learning. A joint probability density function (PDF) is devised to calculate the safest route for risk modeling, factoring in latitude and longitude. The model quantifies accident prob

As criminal activities are increasing day by day, it is very important to ensure the safety of people to the best possible extent. Current times, demands people to travel to various places, known or unknown. People may not be aware of the unsafe areas and unsafe streets while travelling. In this paper, we attempt to mine the records of 12 years based on geographical locations to determine the safest route amongst all possible routes for given source and destination at a particular time. We use the ID3 decision tree algorithm and determine the risk involved for the streets within a given route.

An emergency route is a route designed for human use to save themselves from dangerous situations. However, if it is considered trivial, this has unknowingly led to an increase in accidents. The provision of emergency routes on a community scale in indoor areas in terms of time is rarely discussed in emergency evacuation studies. This study aims to investigate the emergency route in the building due to the environmental factors of the closed area and the arrangement of office equipment. The aim of the study was to solve the problem of people being trapped in their homes during floods, which can be extremely dangerous for their safety. The height of evacuation routes has not been considered in traditional flood evacuation planning procedures, leaving them vulnerable to flooding. Abstract:
Pipelines are one of the safest ways of transporting hazardous liquids, such as crude oil, gasoline, kerosene and diesel oil. However, few models exist that predict the spread of a liquid over a general topography following accidental release from a pipeline. The methodology presented in this paper allows the route taken by an accidental release of liquid from a pipeline to be predicted. The porosity of the ground is included to enable the extent of spread of the liquid and the proportion of the release reaching an important location, such as a river, to be established. The resulting flow for

The movement of soldiers and materiel across battlespace is critical to a successful military operation. Knowledge of the road network condition ensures safe and successful vehicle maneuver. This research focused on remote assessment of poor-quality paved road networks for vehicle maneuver using data products derived from three-dimensional point clouds. Point clouds were generated from lidar sensors deployed from ground and airborne platforms to enable engineering analysis of the pavement surface. A series of algorithms developed to extract roughness, grade, radius of curvature, and width alon

Abstract:
This study evaluates the demand for truck-only toll lanes on Southern California freeways with owner–operator truck drivers. The study implemented the stated preference survey method to estimate the value placed by drivers on time, reliability, and safety measures using various scenarios geared towards assessing those values. The project team met face-to-face with owner- operator truck drivers near the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to understand the drivers’ perspectives regarding truck-only toll lanes on Southern California freeways. A data set containing 31 survey responses is obtained

To contribute to the understanding of freeway capacity and financing options, this study evaluates the demand for truck-only toll lanes on Southern California freeways. The study implemented surveys to both company truck drivers and owner-operator truck drivers to estimate the value they place on time, reliability, and safety measures. The research team met face-to-face with both types of truck drivers near the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach to understand the drivers’ perspectives regarding truck-only toll lanes on Southern California freeways. Traffic Incident Management (TIM) is a FHWA Every Day Counts initiative with the objective of reducing secondary crashes, improving travel reliability, and ensuring the safety of responders. Agency roadside cameras play a critical role in TIM by helping dispatchers quickly identify the precise location of incidents when receiving reports from motorists with varying levels of spatial accuracy. Reconciling position reports that are often mile-marker based with cameras that operate in a Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) coordinate system relies on dispatchers having detailed knowledge of hundreds of cameras an

Abstract:
This project developed a three-dimensional (3D) seepage model to evaluate efficiency of 84 relief wells and factors of safety (FoS) along the Profit Island vicinity levee (PIVL), north of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The PIVL model was built based on US Geological Survey MODFLOW-USG. Moreover, a 3D seepage model of RocScience RS3 was also built for a specific study of relief well experiments conducted by the US Army Corps of Engineers in the 1930s and 1940s. The PIVL model was calibrated with measured piezometric head data and relief well flow rates in 1997. Six flood scenarios were conducted: the
