Aim of the Study: Two main geologic terrains of basement complex and sedimentary areas were investigated for underground water production capacity by evaluating the aquifer properties. The assessment was done by evaluating 19 boreholes in the two terrains. TK1-TK10 constituted the boreholes from basement area, while AK1-9 constituted boreholes of sedimentary terrain. Methodology: Pumping rate of the boreholes were crucial to establish the water production capacity from the geologic terrains. Abstract Tesserae on Venus are locally the stratigraphically oldest units preserved on the planet. These regions are characterized by pervasive tectonic deformation including normal faults, grabens, thrust faults, and folds. In multiple tesserae, sets of (often highly) curved, parallel linear features are also present. These features strongly resemble terracing in layered volcanic or sedimentary sequences on Earth having arcuate or sinuous outcrop patterns that follow undulating topography. Should this analogy hold for Venus, then these outcrop patterns imply some erosion of the tessera units

The underground sedimentary bauxite ore body in Shanxi province has a shallow burial depth; the valley terrain caused stress concentration on a pillar which affected the pillar’s safety and goaf stability. This paper proposed a pillar safety coefficient calculation method affected by the goaf structural parameters and the valley terrain, which was based on a pillar mechanics analysis under the valley terrain. The results show that the overlying valley terrain will cause stress concentration on the pillar, reducing the adequate bearing capacity and the pillar stability. The increase of the goaf

Glacial ripping is a newly recognized process sequence in which subglacial erosion is triggered by groundwater overpressure. Investigations in gneiss terrain in lowland Sweden indicate that ripping involves three stages of (i) hydraulic jacking, (ii) rock disruption under subglacial traction, and (iii) glacial transport of rock blocks. Evidence for each stage includes, respectively, dilated fractures with sediment fills, disintegrated roches moutonnées, and boulder spreads. ABSTRACT Several wells have encountered good oil shows in the rift basins of northern Somalia, however, without finding commercial hydrocarbons to date. It is widely accepted that these basins have a similar tectonic evolution and a comparable sedimentary fill as the highly productive rift basins in Yemen from which they have been separated by the opening of the Gulf of Aden (fully established in Mid Oligocene). We present new regional tectonic maps, new basement outcrop maps, a new structural transect and new play maps, specifically for the Odewayne, Nogal, Daroor and Socotra Basins. Digital

To achieve a net-zero clean energy future, developing offshore windfarm sites is fundamental to the UK's success in the renewable forms of energy. Integral to this is understanding the shallow subsurface geology which forms the foundation zone to these windfarm developments; particularly the impacts of past glaciations on the sedimentary and structural architecture of the deposits left behind following deglaciation. The range of depositional environments and distribution of deposits including diamictons, organic soils, rhythmically laminated soils, sands and gravels, result in extreme lateral

Abstract The Bohai area is China's largest offshore crude oil production base, with proven reserves of Paleogene clastic rocks accounting for less than 30%. This positions it as a crucial production field for the future. Currently, accurately predicting the spatial distribution of these Paleogene clastic rock reservoirs remains a significant challenge. Located in the southern Bohai Sea, the fault terrace zone of the Yellow River estuary depression is bounded by the Tan-Lu strike-slip fault zone, which traverses eastern China. Recent drilling has revealed considerable variations in the spatial

The area is mainly occupied by sedimentary (and metamorphic) rocks of Permian, Triassic, Tertiary and Quaternary ages. The Triassic rocks include the Phra That, the Pha Kan, and the Hong Hoi Formations of the Lampang Group. Igneous rocks comprise Permo-Triassic volcanics, Triassic granodiorite, and Cenozoic basalts. Sapphires are frequently found in alluvial and residual deposits, particularly in the northern basaltic area. Sapphires in the s

S?t? Tlein (Tlingit for ?Big Glacier?) is the traditional name for what has recently been called Malaspina Glacier, the largest glacier in Alaska. The piedmont terminal lobe of S?t? Tlein is protected from the adjacent Pacific Ocean by a narrow, vegetated foreland dotted with proglacial lakes. Ice of the piedmont lobe is largely covered with debris and vegetation. These lakes and sedimentary deposits impact rates of melt and calving and therefore impact ongoing evolution of the glacier itself. To document these features, we present 1) a new surficial geology map for the foreland and piedmont l

Geophysical reassessment of the role of ancient lineaments on the development of the western margin of Laurentia and its sediment-hosted Zn-Pb deposits, Yukon and Northwest Territories. Abstract:
The role of crustal lineaments in the development of the western margin of Laurentia, Selwyn basin and associated sediment-hosted Zn-Pb deposits (clastic-dominated, Mississippi-Valley-type) in Yukon and NWT, are reassessed through a new 3-D inversion strategy applied to new compilations of gravity and magnetic data. Regionally continuous, broadly NE-trending crustal lineaments including the Liard line, Fort Norman structure, and Leith Ridge fault, were interpreted as having had long-standing influence on craton, margin, and sedimentary basin development. However, multiple tectonic overprints i
