Abstract:
Triple-shape memory effect (SME), i.e., to recover the original shape through one intermediate shape upon heating, has been demonstrated as an intrinsic feature of thermo-responsive shape memory polymers (SMPs) after being uniformly programmed, but seemingly has yet been achieved in shape memory alloys (SMAs). In this paper, we study two programming approaches, in which the deformation is uniform throughout the whole sample length without involving any permanent change in material properties at all, to realize the triple-SME in NiTi SMAs. We show that the triple-SME can be tailored to meet the

Shape memory polymer (SMP) is being used in many engineering fields due to its shape memory effect and the advantages of large recoverable strain, excellent manufacturability, light weight, low cost and bio-degradability. Therefore it is of practical interest to investigate its thermo-mechanical behaviors. In this paper, a numerical simulation method is supposed to simulate the thermo-mechanical behaviors of SMP using the finite element software of MSC Marc, which is good at simulating the thermo-mechanical behaviors of viscous elastic material. En conclusion, une extension de modèle s'est avérée nécessaire. Shape-memory alloys are a new class of functional materials with a peculiar property known as shape memory effect. These alloys have an ability to recover a particular shape. The origin of this phenomenon lies in the fact that the material changes its internal crystalline structure with changing temperature. Copper based ternary alloys exhibit shape memory effect in metastable - phase field. These alloys undergo two ordered transitions on cooling, and bcc structures turn into B2(CsCl) or DO3(Fe3Al) -type ordered structures. The ordered structures martensitically undergo the non-convention

This research focuses on the characterization of the structure and mechanical behavior of metal nanowires. Molecular dynamics simulations with embedded-atom method (EAM) potentials are used. A novel shape memory effect and pseudoelastic behavior of single-crystalline FCC metal (Cu, Ni, and Au) nanowires are discovered. Specifically, upon tensile loading and unloading, these wires can recover elongations of up to 50%, well beyond the recoverable strains of 5-8% typical for most bulk shape memory alloys. This novel behavior arises from a reversible lattice reorientation driven by the high surfac

Shape memory alloys (SMAs) operating as solid-state actuators pose economic and environmental benefits to the aerospace industry due to their lightweight, compact design, which provides potential for reducing fuel emissions and overall operating cost in aeronautical equipment. Despite wide applicability, the implementation of SMA technology into aerospace-related actuator applications is hindered by harsh environmental conditions, which necessitate extremely high or low transformation temperatures. The versatility of the NiTi-based SMA system shows potential for meeting these demanding materia

After decades of cyclical peace agreement failures and war in Mindanao, the establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in early 2019 brought the best hope for sustainable peace and stability in living memory. A trifecta of stigma, shame, and fear is regularly identified as levers exploited by peace spoilers to not only recruit and mobilize from local communities but obstruct disengagement and reintegration efforts. It can be observed that the fabricated two-way shape memory alloy actuator can present steady fold-deploy procedures more than five times, in which the recoverable rate is higher than 95.83%, and the required time in the complete deployi
