Abstract:
This article examines the peculiarities and peculiar conditions of the formation of the consumer market in the process of its formation and development. At the initial stage of the transformation period, the consumer market was formed in the context of a widespread shortage of consumer goods and a decline in domestic production. During the transition to an open economy, the shortage of goods was eliminated, not by increasing the supply of domestically produced goods, but by importing foreign-made consumer goods. Domestic producers could not stand the competition and imported goods poured into the domestic market, primarily goods from China. The main reasons hindering the development of the consumer market are formulated and measures are proposed to reduce the factors that negatively affect the consumer market.

Abstract:
This paper establishes the decentralized decision-making model of consumer goods, the active collaboration model of consumer goods suppliers, and the decentralized decision-making model of customized consumer goods. Through formula derivation and simulation, the benefit and influence differences of the three modes are compared. This paper studies the influence of supplier’s active collaboration on the supply and demand instability of consumer goods and discusses the ideal value of supply chain inventory control. In China’s modern circular economy, the inventory control of the consumer goods supply chain is unscientific and nonstandard. We discuss a new inventory control method and study the ideal value of supply chain inventory control. It helps reduce the inventory shortage loss caused by the uncertainty of daily consumer goods, improve the efficiency of the supply chain, enhance the liquidity of supply chain inventory to achieve the purpose of increasing economic value. It has reference value for the inventory control of consumer goods in other countries and regions. The results show that under certain conditions, the horizontal collaboration between suppliers can improve the completeness of consumer goods. The collaboration between suppliers can reduce the hidden dangers caused by the uncertainty of supply and demand and significantly reduce the total inventory cost of manufacturers and improve profits.

Abstract:
Inefficient stock management, such as improper stock management, will result in excess or shortage of goods. Excess stock can cause high storage costs and the risk of unsold goods. Predict consumer needs based on stock. Analyze inefficient stock to improve shortages. One effective method for making this prediction is using the K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN) algorithm. The K-NN algorithm is a simple but powerful machine-learning technique that can be used for classification and regression. The model scenario results show 24 objects in the Low-needs group and 14 in the High-needs group. Evaluation and performance testing using the Rapid Miner tool can also produce a relevant picture of the modelled scenario. The model implemented using the K-NN algorithm has an Accuracy value of 97.50% with a Standard Deviation of +/- 750%, then a Precision value of 100%, and a Recall value of 950%. By measuring model performance with cross-validation, the resulting accuracy has a standard deviation value, which aims to see the distance between the average accuracy and the accuracy of each experiment (iteration)

Abstract:
The article is dedicated to the work of local industries, and producers’ and disabled people’s cooperatives manufacturing consumer goods in Bashkiria in 1944 to 1945. The archive materials first introduced into the scientific scrutiny in this article show important contribution of producers’ and disabled people’s cooperation to the growth of the goods turnover in Bashkiria. During the Great Patriotic War, the centralized funds were reduced significantly. The turnover of the state-owned trading organizations and consumer cooperation dropped. Considerable resources were withdrawn to meet the urgent needs of the Army. These economic hardships necessitated the producers’ and disabled people’s cooperative societies to step in and by using local resources and industrial waste to make up for the shortage of consumer goods in the trading system of Bashkiria. Those goods were needed for satisfying the demand for consumer goods by local and evacuated people. The study showed different infringements of contractual arrangements between cooperatives and trading organizations. It disclosed the causes of the failure of production plans. There were cases of embezzling scarce goods, cases of self-supplying. Often the distribution of goods was performed outside the legal trading network. Inspections regularly found embezzlement and theft of significant amounts of produce. The conclusion is that the aforementioned set of infringements was one of the causes of the failure of the turnover plan in the state trading system in Bashkiria.

Abstract:
Inventory of goods is goods available in a shop or trading company for sale and purchase to meet consumer demand. However, the inventory of goods must be checked periodically so that there is no stock shortage of the goods. This will make the form of service to consumers worse. So making decisions regarding stock of goods becomes difficult because information regarding the availability of goods is not provided quickly and accurately. The aim of this research is to answer the above problems that UD still faces. Minang Traditional Home Snacks. UD. Minang Traditional House Snacks is a trading business that sells various snacks. There is a need for a web-based application to be able to manage the supply of these snacks. The results and conclusions of this research are that this application can operate regarding purchases (incoming goods) and sales (outgoing goods) in providing this stock. This results in an inventory card containing information on purchase transactions, sales expenses, and inventory in the form of a report that can be printed. With this application, it becomes easier for the owner to run his trading business, especially managing snack supplies, compared to not using the application.

Moodley, Thigenthren. "Exploring what companies are doing to manage the shortage of technical skills in the South African manufacturing sector of fast moving consumer goods." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/96215.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (MBA)--Stellenbosch University, 2014.
The government of South Africa aspires to achieve a six percent economic growth per annum. The scarcity of qualified and experienced people that are crucial in contributing to economic growth and creating job opportunities, poses a problem for the country. The current demand for skills that are out of reach for many workers and the prevailing unemployment that is caused by the mismatch between what an organisation seeks and what a potential candidate can provide, have been highlighted as a critical cause for the scarcity of skills. The aim of this research assignment was to examine the current crisis of the skills shortage in the South African economy, with the focus on the manufacturing sector within the FMCG industry. Semi-structured and open-ended interviews with human resource, training and development, as well as technical managers in manufacturing organisations in Cape Town, South Africa were conducted. Data was obtained from a sample of six managers. According to all respondents interviewed, it takes approximately two to six months to replace an employee who has the appropriate technical skills. All the respondents are concerned with the situation of the technical skills shortage in the country. Consequently, these respondents’ companies engage in a talent war in order to recruit the best talent. It is therefore obvious that the market dynamics of supply and demand are out of equilibrium with regard to technically skilled employees in the manufacturing segment of the South African FMCG industry. The interviews that were conducted identified some companies that train new employees in technical skills. However, the majority of the companies are not doing much to improve the situation. In addition, the companies in this sector also compete with the other industries in the South African and the global economy regarding technical skills.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (S.M.)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan School of Management, 2002.
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 84-87).
The Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) industry has existed for decades with a high household penetration. Individual firms started out as small family owned businesses and then gradually became more "industrialized" via acquisitions. Historically, a low capital cost of entry, as well as high geographic dispersion encouraged fragmentation of competition. Overcapacity encouraged product proliferation; relatively low profitability produced little innovation, reducing the overall loyalty of consumers to CPG products today. Consumer habits changed quickly with the introduction of new offerings, further pressuring CPG manufacturers. A key CPG issue today is how to reduce cost base and overcapacity to enable investment in innovation, and branding. Cost reduction is expected from simplification (SKU's, products, lines etc), capacity consolidation, and a reduction in the fixed cost component of production. It is the belief that value creating innovation in the industry will enable the CPG industry to regain relevance and loyalty with the consumer while being more efficient (reducing costs), and enabling the investment necessary to sustain profitable growth. The annual organic growth in the CPG industry ranges between 2-6%. This thesis analyzes the effects of technology on marketing, as a value creating catalyst for profitable growth. The analysis starts with a review of the frameworks on strategy proposed by Hax, evolutions in consumer shopping behavior by Falk, as well as developments in technology based marketing by Coviello. The thesis further reviews practical technology applications currently in the CPG field. The consumer survey section in the thesis evaluates three technology device concepts (FAST LANE, PRODUCT GPS, and AUTO REORDER) that were developed using technology lead-users. The information presented and conclusions argued in this thesis suggest that the technology device concepts have a strong value creating effect in marketing and on the business; a benefit that is appropriated to the consumer, the retailer, and the CPG manufacturer. The final pillar in the survey is an interview with two major retailers in the Boston area that validate the potential and willingness to implement such mutually value creating programs.
by Roger V.
The aim of this study was to find a connection between changes in societies and changes in semantic prototypes by examining the prototypes of ‘fruit’ and ‘car’ among Slovenes that reached adulthood in Yugoslavia and Slovenes that that reached adulthood in the Republic of Slovenia and to compare those results with a control group of native English speakers. The results of the study suggests that in some aspects, the prototypes of ‘fruit’ and ‘car’ amongyounger Slovenes have moved closer to what they are in cultures that have a long history of capitalism and consumerism. The opinions about how good an example of a ‘fruit’ a banana is, is the best example of this. Younger Slovenes and the control group see it as a very good example, while older Slovenes rated it lower. The older Slovenes were also slightly more accepting of a very small car model being a good example of a ‘car’, than both younger Slovenes and the control group were.

Mau, Jonathan, and Bryan P. McFadden. "Macroeconomic models of consumer demand for consumer packaged goods in Asia." Thesis, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1721.1/77469.

Full text
Abstract:
Thesis (M. Eng. in Logistics)--Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Engineering Systems Division, 2012.
Cataloged from PDF version of thesis.
Includes bibliographical references (p. 90-92).
CPGCo, a global manufacturer of consumer packaged goods, has had tremendous difficulty in producing accurate forecasts for its products in developing markets. The problem was especially apparent during the global economic crisis in 2008, which caused demand for its products to become highly volatile. Its troubles have been aggravated by its long forecasting horizon, as it has not been able to adjust quickly enough to rapid market shifts due to fluctuations in various macroeconomic indicators. As a result, CPGCo faces heavy stockouts and excess inventories. This thesis explores the suitability of using macroeconomic indicators to forecast consumer demand for three developing countries in Asia as well as three separate product segments. A total of 27 macroeconomic models are constructed using stepwise multiple linear regression analysis employing three separate dependent variables: the firm's monthly wholesale shipment volume, retail market share by volume, and retail sales. The world oil price and country-specific exchange rates, stock indexes, interest rates, consumer price indexes, and consumer confidence indicators are used as independent variables. With our models, we are capable of producing extremely accurate forecasts for a small sample set with errors at or below 7.2%. Our findings also indicate that the consumer price index has the most influence on consumer demand, appearing in 81% of our models; thus, we recommend that CPGCo tracks the consumer price index of each country to complement its current forecasting processes.
by Jonathan Mau and Bryan P. Abstract:
During the second half of the 1920s – the first half of the 1930s, significant changes unfolded in the trade network of Siberian cities. The state sector became dominant, the share of cooperation decreased significantly, and the private sector was eliminated. In the conditions of an all-encompassing shortage of consumer goods, there was a transition from the organization of trade on market principles to a standardized supply and distribution system. As part of this transition, the relationship between the seller and the buyer has radically changed. The card system, constant shortages and long queues turned the buyer from a welcome guest into a humiliated recipient of the prescribed portion of consumer goods. The relations that developed during this period determined the characteristic features of the Soviet trading system throughout the Soviet era.

Abstract:
The retail sector with its network of stores is an inseparable and one of the most important parts for the functioning of the economy and society in general in the modern dynamic market environment. This is particularly evident when it comes to the retail sale of fast moving consumer goods (FMCG). The fact is that the vast majority of the population does not produce food and other existential goods for daily consumption, but is completely dependent on the purchase of these products. Considering this, it is clear that any major turbulence caused by a certain crisis that directly or indirectly affects retail sector also affects consumers’ life quality. Crises, such as those caused by the COVID 19 pandemic, lead to product shortages on the shelves, reduced opening hours of the stores, closure of stores in many locations, changes in the assortment of stores, increase in prices of products on retail shelves, longer waits for product delivery, less employees in the stores that are available to consumers, etc. If the global events that caused crises on market in the recent past have shown as anything, it is that crises will be more and more frequent, with an unpredictable length and even faster expectations for adjustments to market conditions in order to persist and remain competitive. The objective of this research is to look at the impact of these crises and their consequences on retailers and consumers, in order to predict new crises and make suggestions so that retailers can react to mitigate the effects of these crises.

Full text
Abstract:
Decentralized last-mile delivery is a modern logistics approach that optimizes the delivery process by using local hubs or microhubs located near the final recipients. This reduces the distance between the hubs and the delivery location, which reduces transportation time and operating costs. At the same time, customers receive their orders faster, which increases their satisfaction with the service. This approach is extremely relevant amid the growing popularity of e-commerce, where speed and accuracy of delivery are crucial to maintaining customer loyalty. However, the successful operation of a decentralized delivery model requires a sophisticated logistics management system. Artificial intelligence technologies come to the rescue to solve a number of tasks, such as route optimization, inventory management, and demand forecasting. For example, machine learning algorithms are able to adapt courier routes in real time to changes in traffic, weather conditions, and road conditions, which reduces fuel costs and reduces the number of vehicles on the road. This is especially important in large urban areas with heavy traffic, where even small delays can significantly affect the overall delivery time. AI also plays an important role in inventory management, allowing for more accurate planning of replenishment of goods in individual local hubs, avoiding excessive accumulation of products or their shortage. By analyzing historical sales data and consumer behavioral patterns, AI systems can predict the demand for different categories of goods in certain areas. This helps minimize storage costs and ensure that products are available in the right place and at the right time, which in turn increases delivery efficiency. Thus, a decentralized last-mile delivery model involving artificial intelligence allows logistics companies to significantly improve the quality of service, increase the efficiency of all logistics processes, and reduce the negative impact on the environment.

Abstract:
The material needs of the population are largely met by retail, and the degree of satisfaction of these needs expressed by the demand of buyers of material goods depends largely on the ability of buyers to choose and procure their favorite goods. This possibility depends on the degree of diversity and the structure of the supply of goods in the retail network, which must correspond to the structure of consumer needs and the solvent demand of buyers. This correspondence can only be achieved by ensuring the management of the commercial assortment of goods. Like any other, the management of the commercial assortment of goods is carried out by performing a series of functions, including specific ones, the nomenclature and the content of which are not yet determined in the specialized literature. The purpose of this work is to complete the nomenclature and specify the nominations of the specific functions of the management system of the commercial assortment of consumer goods, to formulate the definitions and to elaborate the contents of the specific functions of regulation - forecasting -normation of the optimal commercial assortment of consumer goods. The research is performed using scientific methods: observation, comparative analysis, co relational analysis, analogy, induction and deduction, prediction, extrapolation, generalization, expertise, didactic and practical experience, etc., orienting us to the standards regarding the management of the quality of the production in the spheres of production and circulation and to the specialized literature. In the work we present the specified or premiere nominations and the extended version of the nomenclature of the specific functions of the management of the commercial assortment of consumer goods in the retail trade network. For the first time, we present the definitions, contents (purposes, tasks and elements) and areas of application of the specific functions of regulation - forecasting - normation of the optimal commercial assortment of consumer goods of the management of the commercial assortment of consumer goods.

Abstract:
Crime and the durability of goods are strongly connected issues. However, surprisingly, they have been studied separately. This paper explores the relationship between the production of durable goods and crime from a theoretical perspective and draws important conclusions for both topics. Crime affects the consumer and producer surplus and thus the behavior of consumers, firms, the market equilibrium, and, in turn, the social optimum. Lower durability of goods reduces the incentive to steal those goods, thus reducing crime. When crime is included in the standard framework of durable goods, the socially optimal durability level is lower. Even without considering the negative non-market externalities of crime, perfect competition does not provide the optimal durability level. When considering different stealing technologies, perfect competition either over-produces durability or produces zero (minimum) durability. The monopolist under-produces durability regardless of the stealing technology considered. If all the crime externalities are taken into account, the socially optimal durability level is reduced further and gets closer to that which prevails under monopoly. The model has a clear policy implication: the durability of goods, and the market structure for those goods, can be an effective instrument to reduce crime. In particular, making the durability of a good contingent upon that good being stolen is likely to increase welfare.
