Mechanisms of silicosis, caused by the inhalation of silica are still unclear, and the effect of sex on silicosis has rarely been reported. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether sex affects the silicotic lesions and the progressive fibrotic responses in silicosis. Our study showed that sex had no significant effect on the area of silicon nodules and the collagen deposition after a one-time bronchial perfusion of silica. Immunohistochemical staining showed that CD68 and the transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1) were positive in male and female silicotic mice. In addition, the we

Methods.—The nature of the endobronchial silicotic lesions that caused the bronchial obstruction has been confirmed by endobronchial biopsies and energy-dispersive spectrometry of the lesions. Silicosis is a pulmonary disease caused by the inhalation of silica. There is a lack of early and effective prevention, diagnosis, and treatment methods, and addressing silicotic fibrosis is crucial. Quercetin, a flavonoid with anti-carcinogenic, anti-inflammatory, and antiviral properties, is known to have a suppressive effect on fibrosis. The present study aimed to determine the therapeutic effect of quercetin on silicotic mice and macrophage polarity. We found that quercetin suppressed silicosis in mice. Glycolysis and ER stress have been considered important drivers of pulmonary fibrosis. However, it is not clear whether glycolysis and ER stress are interconnected and if those interconnections regulate the development of pulmonary fibrosis. Our previous studies found that the expression of LDHA, a key enzyme involved in glycolysis, was increased in silica-induced macrophages and silicotic models, and it was closely related to silicosis fibrosis by participating in inflammatory response. However, whether pharmacological inhibition of LDHA is beneficial to the amelioration of silicosis fibrosis

Abstract:
Some liquid lubricants for potential aerospace application were prepared. The lubricity of lubricants including silicon oil with and without chlorobenzene group, cyclotriphosphazene derivative X-1P and perfluoropolyether (PFPE) for both steel/steel and steel/bronze sliding pairs were investigated. Gel percolation chromatography (GPC) was used to detect the tribo-polymerization of the tested silicone oil. Materials related to friction pairs is essential, silicon oil and PFPE are not quite effective for lubrication of a steel/steel pair, but be able to reduce both friction and wear of a steel/br

In this paper we address the problem of assembling several different microfluidic devices, often made from different materials, into a hybrid packaged system. The focus will be on integration of silicon microfluidic die into larger hybrid systems. Details of three different approaches are presented: 1) a plastic flow manifold with tape die attach, 2) multiple capillary die insertion utilizing PDMS (Polydimethylsiloxane – silicone adhesive) for sealing and structural support, and 3) die attachment to a glass flow manifold utilizing anodic bonding. The unique tools required for each of these thr

Abstract:
The application of plasma polymerized silicon-based coatings on plastic substrates is an effective way to adjust the permeability of the substrate. However, the permeation mechanisms are yet not fully understood. Here, the activation energy of permeation can offer valuable insights. In order to understand how the activation energy of permeation depends on the coating structure, five silicon-based coatings with varying oxygen content were analyzed, which led to property modifications ranging from silicon-oxidic to silicon-organic. Positron annihilation spectroscopy was employed to characterize

Thus it was established that ion bombardment of silicon surface in the energy region of the threshold of elastic displacement of atoms might allow to improve structural characteristics of surface lavers and to decrease the relaxation time. Energy dependencies of radiation induced processes show a possibility to improve the real staicture of Silicon surface and to accelerate the long-term surface relaxation in microelectronic technology.

Abstract:
Transmutation reactions are the unique way to get a large concentration of Silicon atoms in Aluminum lattice, and just in substitutional positions. Appearing Silicon atoms in Aluminum lattice instead of Aluminum atoms leads to arising of mechanical stresses. This factor is the keystone of the model, which allows to explain the main peculiarities of Si precipitate creation in Aluminum irradiated by thermal neutrons. First, we shall describe the qualitative peculiarities of the model. Then we shall perform some quantitative estimates. At last the model will be discussed and compared with experim
