INTRODUCTION: Bacterial meningitis has great social relevance due to its ability to produce sequelae and cause death. It is most frequently found in developing countries, especially among children. Meningococcal meningitis occurs at a high frequency in populations with poor living conditions. This study describes the temporal evolution of bacterial meningitis in Salvador, Brazil, 1995-2009, and verifies the association between its spatial variation and the living conditions of the population. The study also examines the block-wise status of the living conditions of farmers. Bareilly district has a significant portion (59.3 per cent) of its population engaged in farming activities. However, despite the importance of agriculture, the living conditions of farmers remain a critical concern, associated with various socioeconomic factors influencing their well-being. Spatial inequalities in living conditions have traditionally been attributed to geographical location, the opposition between urban and rural settings or the size of settlements. In recent decades, however, urban areas have extended their scope, urbanization has become more dispersed, territories have become more interdependent and spatial hierarchies have tended to weaken. Urban canal areas, especially in low-income settlements, frequently suffer from inadequate design, which affects the emotional health of teenagers, a demographic that is especially vulnerable to emotional challenges. This study explores how design parameters, such as the density of visual greenery, spatial greenery distribution, and blue-green integration along canal waterfronts, can influence eudaemonic and hedonic emotional well-being and the quality of life for teenagers in these areas. The study, conducted with 40 teenagers living in low-income settlements near canal environments, examined

Abstract. Residents need to change their habitual behaviors following living space changes, such as moving or remodeling, and that may occur mental stress. This stress is a major problem, especially for the elderly, who are less able to cope with changes in their environment. To reduce this stress, a system that reflects the living information of the original houses in new houses, where habits can be retained in the new environments is needed. Many studies have been conducted to quantify life information as a habitual model using data mining and pattern recognition methods. “Process Mining” is

Sustainable development, or discourse, is currently still the dominant environmental discourse in international and local environments, which was formed on the initiative of the so-called Brundtland Commission in the mid-1980s due to many social problems, especially environmental problems and their consequences. It basically represented the first global response from a critical, wider public, due to the growing needs of an ever-growing population, spatial pressures and lack of environmental awareness, reflected in increasing consequences for living and non-living nature and especially for huma

It is thought that climate change will radically affect societies in the future, leading to radical changes in the structural and spatial mechanisms of cities. Today, most of the World, particularly 10% of the World's population living in settlements below the sea level are expected to be affected by extreme climatic conditions such as sea-level rise, change in ocean currents, destructive weather events and heat waves (IPCC, 2019). As discussed in the literature (see. Hjerpe & Linner, 2009; Foust, 2009), in this study, the most severe effects of climate change are described as a dystopian

This study focuses on research about the spatial and social living environment of elderly with care demand. It developed from the urge for new ways of thinking about the design of care for elderly in neighborhoods and houses. In a collaboration between an architectural school of education and a social housing association housing the elderly, an interdisciplinary research method to come to new models for elderly living was developed. The study describes the method and main findings. In the Netherlands the demographic transition to an aging society runs parallel with transitions in the policy an

Despite women working “two-thirds of the world's working hours, producing half of the world's food,” their labour often goes unrecognized, underpaid or even unpaid, and hidden away in the private sphere[1]. This history thesis seeks to make visible the untold story of les jaqueteres, the women that sew jackets and the spaces where they used to work as seamstresses. Particularly, it focuses on the neighbourhood of Benimaclet, in northern part of the city of Valencia, Spain. The lack of technical or human resources present in most of the world's municipalities prevents the creation and access to spatial information. Collaborative processes have shown that they are capable of mapping the world with sufficient precision. But it is not enough to describe the physical structure of the territory, the roads, or the buildings, it is also necessary to obtain information on the living conditions of its inhabitants and on the state of its development. The U.S. national parks have experienced significant climate-change impacts and rapid, on-going changes are expected to continue. Despite the significant climate-change vulnerabilities facing parks, relatively few parks have conducted comprehensive climate-change vulnerability assessments, defined as assessments that synthesize vulnerability information from a wide range of sources, identify key climate-change impacts, and prioritize vulnerable park resources (Michalak et al. In review). In recognition that funding and planning capacity is limited, this project was initiated to identify geogra
