Abstract:
The theologians of the early church sought to interpret the Christian gospel in the categories of `Mediterranean antiquity. ' The classical two-nature model of Christology has a Greek philosophical underpinning that shapes the ontological construction of the deity and humanity of Jesus Christ. Logos Christology is primarily a reflection on the hypostatic union of the Logos with the human reality of Jesus that leaves little place for a consideration of Jesus' relation to the Holy Spirit. In the light of such a limitation in classical Christology, a study of the relationship between Christology

Since the emergence of Spirit Christology in the latter part of the twentieth-century, its proponents have reached back to the ancient church to identify Christologies which bear similarities with their christological proposals. Normally, these scholars do not extend the recognition of Christologies bearing these characteristics past the Council of Chalcedon, leaving a considerable historical gap until the rise of the rhodern discussion of Spirit Christology. Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines the theme of Temple Christology in the fourth chapter of John's gospel in light of the early Jewish understanding of water and Spirit. This study not only carefully investigates the Jewish tradition of water and Spirit as the normative background for John 4, but also develops Temple Christology by connecting these distinct traditions of water with the Spirit as eschatological life for John's use of the Spirit as the source of new creational life. The evidence shows that the most conventional way of describing water in Second Temple Judaism was the life-giving usage, reject

Abstract:
This essay sheds light on three Pentecostal theologians – Frank D. Macchia, Darío López Rodríguez and Opoku Onyinah by analysing one of their theological publications each. The goal of the essay is to find out how their view of Jesus, Christology, compares to the Fivefold gospel of the Classical Pentecostal Movement, namely: 1) Jesus as Saviour, 2) Jesus as Sanctifier, 3) Jesus as Spirit Baptizer, 4) Jesus as Healer and 5) Jesus as Coming King. By a comparative textual analysis of the works of the three theologians, this essay also examines the three theologians’ Christologies as they relate t

Abstract:
This study explores the relationship between Christianity and autochthonous (indigenous, pre-Christian) worldviews and practices amongst the Aandonga of Owamboland, Northern Namibia. Using participant contributions from a series of Contextual Bible Study (CBS) sessions (with groups of men, women, and children), and supplemented by ethnographic contextualisation, it challenges the oft-contended notion that Christian worldviews and practices have erased the significance of African Traditional Religion for Ndonga (or wider Owambo) communities. Chamberlain, Peter. "Moaning like a dove : Isaiah's dove texts as the background to the dove in Mark 1:10." Thesis, University of St Andrews, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/10023/7916.

Abstract:
There is no consensus regarding the interpretation of the "Spirit like a dove" comparison in Jesus' baptism (Mk 1:10). Although scholars have proposed at least fifty different interpretations of the dove comparison, no study appears to have considered Isaiah's three dove texts as the background for the Markan dove (cf. Is 38:14; 59:11; 60:8). This neglect is surprising considering the abundance of Isaianic allusions in Mark's Prologue (Mk 1:1-15), and the growing awareness that Isaiah is the hermeneutical key for both the Markan Prologue and Jesus' baptism within it. Indeed, Mark connects the

Abstract:
This dissertation evaluates various contemporary Spirit-Christology proposals. Herein, Spirit Christology is defined as an approach to Christology that affords paradigmatic prominence to the Holy Spirit for understanding traditional Christological categories. Contemporary Spirit-Christology proposals occur along a spectrum of faithfulness to Nicene Trinitarianism and Chalcedonian Christology. While modifications to traditional formulae (implicit or explicit) are commonplace in contemporary proposals of Spirit Christology, it is the thesis of this dissertation that such modifications are neithe

Abstract:
Pentecostalism, which developed its essential character during the classical period of 1901-1916, has many significant contributions to make to modern theology. Often viewed as a type of fundamentalism, it is actually a theological tradition in its own right that deserves consideration along with the other two major streams of protestantism, conservative evangelicalism and more liberal ecumenical-mainline thought. Although it emphasizes the experience of the Holy Spirit, pentecostalism is highly Christocentric as is evidenced by its foundational symbol of faith, the fourfold gospel of Jesus

Through his personal spiritual growth process and Jesus’ teachings and life, Paul became acutely aware of the vast differences between Prophetic Judaism and the Mystical Traditions in relation to the Temple Cult and Temple-ism in general.
