Abstract:
Generally, death taxes are a social instrument used to break up large quantities of wealth in this country. They are intended to act as a pressure relief valve and prevent wealth concentration in the hands of a small number of individuals. Because the objectives and goals of individuals may be quite different from society, forest landowners are one group who face potentially serious problems due to death taxes. Illiquidity, low cash flows and credit problems can cause difficulties for heirs of forest land. Death taxes are examined from a historical, legal and economic perspective. Specifical

The passage of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1972 required states to develop forestry BMPs to help reduce potential nonpoint source pollution from forest operations. Properly applied forestry best management practices (BMPs) have since been proven to protect water quality from forest operations. This research project reviewed BMP effectiveness studies in the U.S., assessed current state developed and implemented of forestry BMPs, and developed a simple method to estimate potential erosion from forest operations for the Piedmont physiographic region based on previous studies.

Simons. Many studies have demonstrated adverse effects of forest fragmentation on breeding forest songbirds in North America, and the viability of regional populations is thought to depend on large, unfragmented forests. However, we know relatively little about the landscape scale consequences of management in the forested landscapes that are presumed to be important to maintaining songbird metapopulations. A data set was compiled from detailed information provided from 26 independent logging contractors from throughout the Eastern United States over a five year period from 2000 to 2004. The age distribution of the logging contractors in the study has increased over time with the percentage of contactors over the age of 55 rising from 15% to 32%. The median age of all equipment including feller-bunchers, skidders, loaders, bulldozers, service vehicles, and haul trucks increased over the period. While the median age of all equipment increased, the age of service and support equipment saw the great

High latitude regions are undergoing significant climate-related change and represent an integral component of the Earths climate system. Near-surface vapor pressure deficit, soil temperature, and soil moisture are essential state variables for monitoring high latitude climate and estimating the response of terrestrial ecosystems to climate change. Methods are developed and evaluated to retrieve surface soil temperature, daily maximum/minimum air temperature, and land surface wetness information from the EOS Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR-E) on the Aqua satellite for eight Boreal

Abstract:
This research assesses the state of sustainability of State indigenous forests in the Eastern Cape and provides recommendations to improve their sustainability. The Eastern Cape Indigenous Forest Management Audit (ECIFMA) report of 2009 provided the primary data for this assessment (DAFF, 2009). The research was inspired by the fact that the global challenge of forestry destruction and degradation where the extent of forests is being reduced at an alarming rate of 6% annually. It became essential for global leaders to develop policies and strategies that sought to promote sustainable fores

Increasing attention to wood production lead to the necessity for owners of forest and nature areas to promote the knowledge and experiences in silviculture and forest management among their staff and work force. Contacts between the main forest owner (the State Forest Service) and the education institutes led to an agreement conceming the long -term use of indicated forest areas as educational forests. Here the considerations and relevant points in the agreement are discussed.
