Abstract:
This article relates history and various aspects of steam locomotive boilers and their relevance in present and future. Prior to 1950, boilers for steam locomotives were built in the United States using primarily lower carbon steel products. The Subgroup on Locomotive Boilers was formed in 2010. Four and a half years later, its work was published as Part PL, Requirements for Locomotive Boilers. The ASME’s Subgroup for Steam Locomotives has taken the approach of codifying both best practices and Code material from steam days. The new locomotive code, Part PL in Section I can truly be looked at

This article deals with the preservation of steam locomotives as static objects in museum collections. In it I use the G-class 4-2-2 steam locomotive more commonly known as the Stirling Single No. 1, which is a part of the collection of the National Railway Museum in the UK, as a case study..
Through this case study I investigate the background of the locomotive as well as the reasons for its current static state of preservation. I argue that steam locomotives don’t need to be operational in order to be valuable and important museum objects and that their static state should be seen as a

The article deals with the problems of creating and using of locomotives run on stored thermal resources (steam) and intended for industrial enteerprises. The objectives of their development and introduction are still relevant and consist in implementation of economical and environmentally friendly locomotives for nonpublic access roads.Shunting operations are considered as an independent type of enterprises’ activity that is not related to their main activity. The locomotives of transport workshops used today for this purpose consume diesel fuel, which significantly increases the logistics co

Abstract Beginning in the 1930s, North American railroads began replacing their steam locomotives with diesels at an ever-accelerating rate. Established steam locomotive producers, most notably the American Locomotive Company and the Baldwin Locomotive Works, proved incapable of dealing with this radical technological discontinuity. As successful steam locomotive manufacturers, these firms developed a corporate managerial culture that was not only linked closely to steam locomotive technology; it also embodied the fundamentals of small-batch custom manufacturing. More successful competitors, s

Abstract: This document gives information about the locomotives used in the train on how to working itself by motion transfer from one to another. In this, era the steam locomotive has been transformed in appearance and characteristics. The diesel engine has been applied to passengers and freight trains. Many of the ideas concerning the application of electric locomotive are still valid today, but progress in transportation engineering has become so accelerated.
