A retrospective study of invasive pneumococcal disease in patients from Greater Göteborg in 1964- 1980 identified 125 cases of meningitis, 305 of pneumonia, 61 of septicemia with unknown focus, and 17 with other manifestations, all verified by cultures from normally sterile body fluids. Objetivo: A meningite bacteriana é uma doença grave com elevada letalidade e complicações, que representa um desafio para a saúde pública global. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o perfil epidemiológico e clínico dos casos de meningite bacteriana em um município brasileiro. Método: Estudo transversal, de base populacional. Foram incluídos no estudo todos os casos de meningite confirmados, conforme preconizado pelo Ministério da Saúde, no período de 1º de janeiro de 2016 a dezembro de 2023. Conclusão: Um total de 820 casos suspeitos de meningite foi notificado, dos quais 495 foram confirmado

Introdução: A febre reumática é uma doença multi-sistêmica decorrente de uma resposta anormal a uma infecção faríngea por Streptococcus pyogenes β-hemolítico do grupo A em pessoas com predisposição genética. Introdução: Conquanto a prescrição pediátrica de antibiótico para finalidade de tratamento da faringotonsilite aguda devesse ser limitada aos casos em que a infecção é bacteriana, em especial nos causados por Streptococcus Hemolítico do grupo A, seu uso indiscriminado ainda prepondera na prática clínica, favorecendo a resistência a antibióticos e o desenvolvimento de cepas menos sensíveis ao tratamento preconizado.
