In 1964, politically-instigated racial turmoil raged throughout British Guiana (now Guyana) as the Caribbean/South American country prepared for independence. Accompanied by rioting, strikes had erupted in 1962 and 1963, and in 1964, violence had been escalating since the commencement of the sugar workers’ strike that began in February of that year. Even so, the extent of the atrocities that took place in Wismar three months later was unprecedented.

After Turkey's political system was transformed to a multi-party democracy, legally interpreted collective labour rights were introduced to the system by legal instruments. The first Trade Unions Act was enacted in 1947. Abstract The 1963 Baffin Island earthquake of MS 6.2 is reanalyzed to determine whether or not it involved normal faulting, as previously suggested. The revised fault-plane solution has nodal planes with strike 113°, dip 66°, rake 235° and strike 352°, dip 41°, rake 322°. The T-axis trends 227° and plunges 14°, and the P-axis trends 338° and plunges 55°. The 1913-14 Copper Country Strike was one of the most tragic labor strikes of the twentieth century but remains largely ignored by mainstream historical research. This article analyzes the importance of ethnic strife as a central factor in the strike using the Italian community as a case study.
