The growth of the public discourse on college completion and student debt has pushed policymakers and institutional leaders to implement a variety of policies aimed at incentivizing student completion. This article examines state-adopted excess credit hour (ECH) policies on student completion and median debt outcomes. Using a quasi-experimental approach, we find little evidence that ECH policies positively affect student completion. However, we find statistically large estimates that adoption of ECH policies increase median student debt. Students from marginalized backgrounds (i.e., first-gene

Also examined is the influence on cost per student of student mix, student-faculty ratios, faculty wages and research intensity. Among the conclusions are that economies of scale apply to Canadian universities and costs per student are positively related to faculty salaries, faculty resear

A funding system predicated on student loan debt emerged, informed by neo-liberal thinking and ideas underpinning the marketization of higher education. Annual tuition fees of £9000 were introduced in 2012 for all full-time undergraduates, repaid by loans with repayments linked to graduates’ ability to pay. Abstract:
This study examines how financial aid shapes post-secondary enrollment and persistence among senior high school graduates, challenging assumptions in traditional human capital theory. While the theory posits that reducing financial barriers increases participation, findings suggest a more complex process. Drawing on survey data from the Batch 2024 graduates in Cagayan Valley, the study traces student trajectories across three points: college application (Wave 1), first-semester enrollment (Wave 2), and second-semester persistence (Wave 3). Those of us working in student services have long understood that academic success is deeply interconnected with the broader wellbeing of the students we serve. Research into student engagement has reinforced this understanding. Kahu’s concept of the educational interface highlights that a student's personal context, including their mental health, financial security, family responsibilities, and sense of belonging, directly shapes their capacity to succeed in
