Acyltransferase (AT)-less type I polyketide synthases (PKSs) break the type I PKS paradigm. They lack the integrated AT domains within their modules and instead use a discrete AT that acts in trans, whereas a type I PKS module minimally contains AT, acyl carrier protein (ACP), and ketosynthase (KS) domains. Structures of canonical type I PKS KS-AT didomains reveal structured linkers that connect the two domains. AT-less type I PKS KSs have remnants of these linkers, which have been hypothesized to be AT docking domains. Natural products produced by AT-less type I PKSs are very complex because

Abstract Inspection has always been a hot topic when it comes to coatings projects. There are some substrates that can be harder to specify due to not knowing without knowing which testing is relevant to specify and properly inspect the substrate and surface after it is coated. Concrete is probably the number one substrate that is confusing. This paper will dive into the testing that is relevant when specifying coatings for concrete tanks and structures. Whether it is how to properly check film build or whether or not an ASTM test is relevant, this paper will clear the waters and make specifyi

Abstract The protection of metallic structures by organic coatings has traditionally been as a barrier, reducing the transport of water, ions, and oxygen from the environment to the substrate. Organic coatings are also used as repositories for corrosion inhibitors that passivate the substrate, and metallic particulates, that provide cathodic protection. Of the latter, Zn-rich primers are universally used for the protection of steel substrates with the zinc particles being sacrificially consumed while providing a mixed potential that mitigates the corrosion of the steel. Recently, Mg-rich prime

Since the discovery of SERS, due to its high sensitivity, it has been widely used in various fields such as biosensing, chemical sensing, and food safety etc., [1]. In SERS, when a probe molecule is placed near a metallic nanostructure it feels a localized field generated due to localized surface plasmons (LSPs) which effectively amplifies its Raman signal. The LSPs are the collective oscillation of free electrons in metallic nanostructures [2]. For the fabrication of the SERS active substrates various methods have been introduced to arrange the metallic nanoparticles (NPs) in specific morphol

It is common knowledge that substrate roughness plays an important role in limiting the specular reflectance of x-ray multilayers. However, there have been relatively few systematic experimental studies of the effects of substrate roughness on x-ray multilayer reflectivity. We have begun to investigate these effects by measuring the specular and off-specular scattering from a set of substrates with different roughness and from tungsten/carbon multilayers deposited simultaneously onto an identical set of substrates.

Coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) characteristic of organic materials for substrates in flip chip package application demanded by semiconductor package requirements is becoming lower than ever. In general, height restrictions are imposed on package-on-package (PoP) devices in mobile applications. One should hence establish a tight budget on the height variation in manufacturing of the devices. Given such background, a lowering of the CTE characteristic of package substrates is an attractive solution for reducing package deformation upon manufacturing, since it contributes to minimize CTE

The experimental results showed that a higher quantity of interfacial voids were generated during adhesive curing when the substrate was attached to the adhesive compared to when the adhesive was applied and distributed on the substrate. The main focus of this research paper is on-media axon branching and adhesion investigation of neurons as stimulated by modulated potentials on micro-patterned gold substrate. Due to the prolonged and inefficient procedures of nerve repair, it is essential that we effectively incorporate different parameters and techniques as well as investigate cell-cell and cell-substrate interactions to explore new boundaries. This could lead to more operational options for nerve regeneration. Initially, the behavior of cell growth is first observed. 3T3 and Neuro2A cells are grown according to specific pro
